2009-2014 HD Tow Package (7-lug) Question

Can someone with a 2009-2014 F-150 equipped with the heavy duty tow package that has the 7-lug wheels, please tell me if their auxiliary transmission cooler in front of the radiator is a 4-row or 8/9-row cooler? If you have larger than a 4-row cooler, could you please post or PM me your VIN number so I can look up the part number for this cooler? Photos are always nice too.

Thanks!

It's called super cooling, and is included on the max tow pkg trucks as well.

See page 97 of the PDF you linked.

It appears that the "Super Cooling" feature is related to the radiator, not the auxiliary transmission cooler.

My question is in regard to the auxiliary transmission cooler. That document also shows on page 97 that all the trucks with an auxiliary transmission cooler only come with the 4-row model, but I know for a fact that I've seen a 2009+ 7-lug truck with a larger 8 or 9 row OE cooler. Maybe they weren't offered in 2013, the year of that fleet document.

Interesting. I did not know that Ford had several different T coolers on the 150s. I went out and looked at mine (2010 5.4 FX-4 with Max Tow) and it has a four row cooler. BUT I noticed that the plastic clip that holds it also has positions for what looks like a 6 row and a 9 row cooler.

PS I didn't think that any of the F150s came with 7 bolt wheels. I thought that was only for F250s and up.

Here's a 2012 - not mine; there's a Heavy Duty package available on some models with select options that includes the 7-lug wheels.

I'm almost certain that these are the trucks that have the 9-row cooler, but I need a VIN number from one to confirm and get the part number.

That is the cooler on a different engine... mine is a max tow and has a 5 row cooler measuring about 1.5inches deep.

Max tow and HD package are two different things. Do you have the 7-lug wheels?

The HD Payload package has a 8200# GVWR and 7 lug wheels - what you SHOULD have bought, Prime............

The max tow and HD payload have the same cooling, the picture he linked above is a supposedly leaked picture of the Ford's new V8 diesel 4.4litre. Why would you have the same tow ratings, same GCWR and different cooling on max tow and HD payload? The answer is they have the same cooling. The only DIFFERENCE with the HD payload is exactly as the name suggests it has a higher payload rating. What parts does that change? 7 lug wheel assemblies that attach to the same axle as max tow, load range E tires, and an extra rear leaf... the shocks are the same part number as max tow trucks.

The 7 lug wheels/wheel assemblies do nothing as they are all attached to the same axles with the same spline count. The rest of the items can be changed out from the originals and is exactly what I opt'd to do. Just because mine doesn't say HD payload on the sticker or door jam doesn't mean my actual parts aren't the same or close to the same.

I knew exactly what I was buying.

Thanks, Prime.

It appears that the truck you provided the VIN for came with the cooler that you posted photos of, which by the way is a 4-row, not a 5-row.

I'm not disagreeing with what you said in post #10 and I realize that the photo of the larger cooler is from Brenda Priddy's sypshots. With that said, I maintain my belief that some 2009-2014 trucks came with the larger cooler shown in that photo and I thought it was 2009-2010 trucks with the HD package.

In years past, some properly equipped F-150 trucks have had higher tow ratings than Super Duty (F-250/F-350) trucks from the same year. There's no doubt that the Super Duty's are are more heavy duty build than a F-150 even though the F-150 may have had the higher tow rating. That's the case here with the aux. trans cooler... the trucks that came with the larger aux. trans cooler do not have the highest tow rating and nobody's saying they do.

My guess is, they may have had more rows previously, but went to a thicker cooler instead. But yea as far as ordering a part they are identical currently to the max tow trucks.

baja150 tranny cooler

Baja150, did you ever get a part number and dimensions for that diesel cooler?
It looks like a direct fit to the ecoboost bracket.

There is only 1(one) transmission cooler that is available/provided on ANY of the 2009-2014 F-150s.

Part # DL3Z-7A095-A
