I'd still never pull a nearly 30 foot long 5th wheel trailer with any half ton. And there's not a chance in hell I'd do it with the 3.7.

I agree, that much trailer belongs behind a 3/4 ton truck.

Yeah, ex91 likes to push his little guy to the very limit, and talks about it quite frequently But hey, honestly, more power to him.

I occasionally see fifth and gooses in 1/2 ton trucks at work and it blows my mind that people actually use those small trucks for trailers like that.

I agree with this statement. However when I made a similar statement I caught hell from a poster. As they couldn't handle I was right and they was wrong. This was in the potential buy thread a while back. Then glc makes his statement and doesn't catch hell like I did.

As one of the handful of us driving F150's with the base V6, it great to see people doing real world stuff with these trucks.

Nice boat by the way!

We now know that the 3.7 will have been short lived in the F150, because for 2015, the base V6 with be a 3.5.

I can't say that I'm surprised that there aren't many people with the 3.7. The 5.0 is widely available and is a really good engine. The 3.7 can get the job done though.

JohnBoy88, I hope that 3.7 F150 does good by you for as long as you want it to. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be hanging on to mine fore some years to come. I'm quite happy with this F150.

Congrats on the boat! Have fun!

also go look at some dynographs for both engines. i think you will be rather surprised.
Here is the quote from the poster that gave me hell on torque being important in trucks.

An unloaded drag is a whole different story than using a truck to do WORK, like towing a trailer.........

It's all in the context.

Sounds like an ***. When towing, I'd rather have 500 ft-lbs and 150 HP versus the other way around. Torque gets ya rolling, HP is top end.

My buddy has an 05 Mustang GT that takes/took both of my friends E46 M3s off the line every time, but the M3s had the top end. Torque: GT>M3; HP and weight(lighter) M3>GT

Thank you sir! I too am very pleased with the real-world capability of this truck and motor combo. I'm glad to know you are still happy with yours. As a matter of fact, your original write-up on your experience with the 3.7 was what helped me make the final decision to move forward with the truck purchase. I was really skeptical, and you're right, the 5.0 is widely available, but I just couldn't pass up the deal I got on this truck. And I won't be getting a boat any bigger than this in the foreseeable future, so as long as this truck keeps snatching it around I'll be happy.

As another member here (wittom) said in a previous write-up regarding the 3.7, it's a very capable V6, but it's no V8. However, I'm sure it could put up a good fight against a few of the smaller V8s on the market. It can definitely hold its own in a full size truck to a certain extent.

i know what you mean. you have to remember the tire size you have vs stock size that i run big tire do take a lot out of a truck v6 or v8. the 3.7 is no super fast unit with my camper on but it keeps up to the rest of the guy i go camping with(01 dodge 318,92 ford 302,08 f250 6.4,06 dodge 5.9 diesel) sure some can go faster but you pulling a trailer there not ment to be driven as race cars. i was told the other day that the car trailer i pull is 4000 lbs(sliding tilt and load with a pair or 7000 lbs axles) and i had a few half ton trucks on that trailer(one at a time) so a 04 ish reg cab long box 2wd v8 f150 should be 4500???? so some where around 8500 behind my truck and it pulled it about the same at my 5th wheel( camper stop more air) sure my truck was working to pull it but it would still go down the road in 5th gear no prob(flat ground) i didn't thing that trailer would be near that heavy i was thinking 2000 to 2500.

yes you people can say i push this truck to the limit and then some. don't get the idea im some **** head 20 year old that has no idea home to drive and just pulls trailer cause he has a truck. i have a truck cause i need a truck. i do a lot of driving that a car would be handy for and i do a fair bit ot trailer pulling. most weekend spring to fall there a atv or a trailer hooked to my truck. a 5.0 would be nice at times but i have never once had a trailer on that i would say was to much for the truck in stopping power or pulling(yes i always have trailer breaks on) i hold a az lic(transport truck) and i drive part time for a living and i drill water well the rest of the time.

there are lots of 5th wheel camper built to be pulled with half ton trucks these days. there are some half tons pulling way to big of trailers out there i know that. the 27.5 foot 5th wheel i have pulled i would not do a cross Canada trip with a hour or two would be all id want to pull it. my 23.5 i got it to go cross Canada in. its nice and light and pull far better than my last 4000lbs bumper pull camper
