5.0 RX catchcan installed!

Since I am local and Tracy at RevXtreme.com has been selling these like hotcakes and the 5.0 guys needed a install guide I bought the can and got free install and a free 1LE dry side separator. Which is now going to be in a different spot than the Ecos (seen below). I met Tracy, his shop mate Tony and the shop dog Big Dog! Great guys and great dog. I was given lots of great info and even saw first hand effects of the Direct Injection affects to the engine without a catch can. He had a few engines apart of different vehicles with varying mileage. You could see that the lower mileage cars valves where clean but the surrounding area covered in grime. The higher mileage one was covered. Direct Injection is good for many things but buildup is a major side effect. I broke my engine in hard and it obviously helped eliminate plenty of blow by. If you dont seat the rings properly your in trouble. Hit the high RPMS guys and get it on it in every gear from the beginning. My TB looked very clean as well as the intake tract. I did have oil in the Intake manifold which we cleaned out pretty good and what we couldnt get will eventually work itself out into the catch can.

He has a lot more pics and instructions on F150forum. PM me and I can send you a direct link. I know I cant post that here. But on with my pics. Not many but it gives you an idea. Tracy knows what he is doing. He even has other model catch cans cut in half to show you the faults and went in great depth explaining the differences. It was a great experience. Not to mention his daughter and son in law are champion drag racers and man there are some pretty trophys in the shop. The daughter takes after her dad!

me and big dog!

That all sounds good except for one small detail, the 5.0 in the trucks is not direct injection. If it was we would be looking at somewhere north of 400 crank hp out of a 5.0 in the trucks and around 450-475 in the mustang. The coyote 5 liter is basically a punched out and revised 4.6 with 4v heads and TiVCT (twin independent variable cam timing)

In the end, this guy was blowing smoke up your rear and you bent over and spread them wide to let him.

Here's their stated reasoning fer installing one.

OP - I'd like to see how much this this catches over time - so If you could post that up at some future point (in this thread), it would be appreciated.

Thankee!

Ha yal are funny! Nowhere did I say the 5.0 was Direct Injection. I stated I got good info and saw the effects of direct injection. Then I went on to state issues with blow by from not breaking in the 5.0 properly. These are marketed more towards the ECO but I wanted to post up my experience with the install and a can more designed to help eliminate blow-by in the 5.0 and the 6.2! But as always you internet tough guys run your traps! Instead of helping the community! Man no wonder I stayed away from here so long. Yal must be part of the helpful crowd on f150forum too!

To MGDfan I will get you the results. Mine may be less than others as my intake and throttle body were very clean. None the less I was trying to help out the 5.0 community apparently its frowned upon!

I got a JTL 5.0 Separator, looks great, OEM ends.

It's a cunning warranty ploy by Ford.

Don't listen to them, catch cans do help with keeping things clean. Yes there is a bigger benefit with DI but it still keeps things clean in regular engines. As a matter of fact at least 1 person I know is on f150forum. this site is generally better than the other.

For some reason catch cans have gotten to be a controversial item with F150's since the ecoboost came out. Some people think they are snake oil, some think they are just for DI engines, some think they are the best thing since sliced bread. If it makes you feel better about having a cleaner engine go for it.

Ain't nobody in this thread claimin' to be a "tough guy". Yer familiar with "Shawn", so you should have no problem a'cipherin' a real innerwebs "tough guy" when ye see one.

And in spite of our own brand of twisted humor and funnin' with ye, we DO appreciate that!

Didn't really mean it like that, was just trying to let the OP know he doesn't need to take the comments personally. Then should have explained a little more, was just going off the insinuations of the catch cans on ecoboost's, and that they have their uses on normal engines too.

Didn't mean to offend anyone.

I was collecting about 1-2oz of oil every 1500-2000 miles in the summer. Winter is a different story thanks to short trips (moisture build up).

Yep, NA 5.0's. Both the F150 and Mustang version have this issue.

Most of what you see in my last two pics is water, hence the ball of ice floating in there.

Yeah av been hearing and seeing that latley.

Price you pay for high CR. My static CR is much higher but only in short bursts.

Apparently ford said this is a normal amount?
