2011 Limited 4wd/AWD issues?
Just got the pickup back out of the shop for valve train noise so i am already on edge with this thing so bear with me
we got roughly 10" of snow last night, went to pull a friend out of the ditch and as i pulled up i locked it into 4hi, no issues, go to back up to him and i hear what sounds like front axles binding and popping, okay no big deal it happens, get him hooked up and pull forward to put some tension on the rope and it feels like the rear tires slip and then the front grabs. almost like there is slop in the driveline or something.
I have to give him a couple of easy pops with the rope to get him off the shoulder nothing crazy and every time i back up i roll about three feet and hear a thunk from the front end along with some popping.
I have already had both front hubs and acuators replaced under warranty on this thing. 56000 miles. is anyone else experiencing this or am i just losing my mind??
4wd once i get rolling seems to work fine with no noises, just from drive to reverse and starting up, it seems like there is too much freeplay and excessive noise.
One other thought if anyone else has driven both, my wifes tahoe with auto 4wd seems so much smoother than the AWD on my truck, which seems rough when the front tires actually have to grab, is that an apples to orange comparison?

I have a 2013 platinum, ecoboost. I have about 31K on it , truck is about a 1.2 years old.
They have replaced pinion gear bearings, and some other part to stop the play in the rearend.
tomorrow they are replacing both front hub assy's and then sending them back to FORD. at times when I put it in either 4x4 auto or directly to 4x4 hi. under load it will grind.
in either auto or hi, letting off the pedal. and then putting it under load again, its like the front end has to catch up.
I know for those who have had issues, it just gets worse. ive heard everything from too thick of grease to metal contamination.
ill re-post after I get the truck back tomorrow. plenty of snow still around to go play in.
I will say I can toggle the 4x4 a couple times and get it to engage hubs. so the grinding noise goes away.
its never failed so far.

dropped it off at the dealership today, tech went for a ride with me and we were able to reproduce the noise with some wheel slippage, no noise on dry pavement. Tech thought it was noise from the transfer case. will know more when they tear it down tomorrow.
I'm glad to hear your dealer has been diligent about getting this figured out for you. Let me know how it looks when you pick it up. I'm happy to assist if you need me to.

well Friday must have been too busy for them. it was there all day. they did nothing. at least it was washed when I went to get it.
its there again today.
4x4 issues, power rear window- slider at times wont close, rear end clunk/noise on take off ( they have replaced the pinion gear bearings once already.)
also loosing power around 3K rpm. then it gets back too it. let them know about a possible update- removing plates over Icooler, and update to PCM. I have gone up a tire size and they said that could cause it. told them I have a tuner I use to program for correct tire size ( only 3inch difference).when programed it shifts better because it knows the correct tire size however it still climbs up to 3K, hesitates and then goes up to 4K or so and shifts. I would say the more miles I get on it. is when it started acting up. I also mentioned a few on here have had plugs gapped incorrectly from factory. we will see what they find out today. with only 31K on it. hoping they decide to check on plugs.

Well hopefully you have better luck than I do going forward. So far I've had a head replaced. Several tappets, hubs and actuators, transfer case and now it is going back because I've developed an oil leak on the side the head was replaced. Looks like a valve cover leak but we will find out next week. I've never owned a vehicle that has had this many issues. Bought it as a one owner with 48000 miles. This will be the last used vehicle I ever buy. Hopefully I run out of stuff to fail at some point.

the paperwork from the shop was mailed to my house on Saturday. looks like they replaced both front IWE actuators. the did something in the rear-end, bearings again for pinion gear. they couldn't replicate issue with rear window not always closing. but as soon as I got in it, it opened and would not close.
have not really had a chance to test 4x4 not that much snow. but no grinding.
we will see what happens. so far so good.
