I run mine until the fuel light comes on, every time, then I get gas. I've always thought about sucking about sludge type gunk from the bottom of the tank, but I've never run it that low.

I have always wondered about how accurate each fuel pump is. Cause when things are measuring down to the hundredth of a gallon, they can't really be that accurate.

When I saw some of the comments last night I figured I could just figure my mileage the old fashioned way. Fill her up... Reset miles driven. Next fill up... Do math on how much to fill up divided by miles driven since last fill. As long as my miles driven indicated is accurate, I should get a good number?
Hi.

^^^ Yes indeed. In fact, there is an entire dissertation on refueling in yer Owner's Guide. It speaks specifically to this for hand calculations.

Keep in mind, the gas in the tank keeps the pump cool. Don't know when the pump starts to get exposed, but you want to keep it immersed.

I have wondered if I should disconnect the battery and see if it makes any difference by resetting the system? I do fill up to the top which I am sure the system can't guess since the level is checked in the tank. The MTE is always off and the truck thinks it is empty around 30.5 gallons. That is a bit too much cushion for me.

I understood that was debunked as a myth about the amount of actual savings?

Rocks, Either way it won't be off by more than a couple MPG. You should still get waaaayyyyy over 12 MPG. Sorry winter gas is getting me more than 15MPG and I can't keep my right foot from slamming down.

Well, my spreadsheet debunks their debunk. I get better mpg on the first half tank on both my 2011 and my 2005. I was told it was due to the evaporative system doing its job.

Might be too many variables. I also have altitude to deal with. The turbos might also be different that the 5.0.

Yeah, right vvv

But shortly after doing the long tubes, I beat the absolute **** out of the truck on the 93 perf tune and got 13.9 on 80% city and stop-and-go. Makes no sense to me at all, but I've concluded that driving style and type of road/speed make no discernible difference in mileage for me. I'm extremely on top of my mpg, religious about fully filling up at the same station, same pump after the tank is all the way empty, and it just doesn't change.

I may start running the 93 eco (have yet to) and do some calculating to see if the 93 is actually somehow worth it

"All the way empty" still has 3+ gallons in it.

It'd be interesting to know when the pump becomes exposed.

I think the gauge is just inaccurate (maybe by design), not because a whole gallon or two is evaporating. I can drive 70 miles before the gas gauge even unpegs from F, so that can't be accurate. I wouldn't want a bunch of gas evaporating. Every vehicle I've driven has had the first half cover more miles than the second half. Plus you're using an entire first half, versus 80-90% of the second half.

Well when it's a 30 gallon tank, that holds more than 30 gallons, and I put 27 or so in, I'd say it had 3 left

My whole family does that, so I'll likely continue to do it. I don't like filling up, so I do it once as UNoften as possible. A lot of folks I know never fill all the way up, so they're constantly runnin' low.

Cute poem

my 13' 5.0 4X4 Scab with 285's showed and avg of 15.2mpg last tank, but the hand calculation comes out to roughly 14.2mpg, so i dont entirely trust the thing. some days i wish i'd have gone with the EB. but i do love the grumble

Did you change tire size? If so the computer has to be recalibrated to be correct.

That right there is you problem. Aftermarket tires that haven't been adjusted for. The thing is bound to be off when it's traveling 1.05 miles for every mile on the computer. You're getting better than 14.2

thats what i figured, but i wasn;t sure how accurate the fuel mileage gauges actually were as i've never had one told told the truth. or even near it. how should i get it adjusted, take it to the dealer and have them flash it? really dont want to throw a tuner at it and kill the warranty
