Lift vs Garage Height

Guys,

Just trying to figure out how much lift I can put on and still be able to fit in a standard garage. Does anyone have any experience with what will and won't work? The tires I have will be 34.5 inches tall.

Desert Dawg I know you wrestled with this for a little bit. Any advice?

The highest point on my roof is a hair under 6'6". FWIW I have a 2" leveling kit and 34.5" tires.

We'd have to know how tall your garage is . . . If bet that they're all close, but that not every builder makes then the same height. But you add the height of the lift, add 1" of height for every 2" of increase on tire diameter, and that gives you a rough approximation of how high you can go.

Assuming you have a 7 foot door, and it FULLY opens, (mine doesn't), you can do a 4" and 35's. You cannot do a 6", it will not fit. You likely have to remove the rake, even with a 4".

I levelled mine with bilsteins at max, and used a 2 inch rear block to replace the stock 1.25. Effectively I did a 2.5 front lift. Pics should speak for the rest.

Looks like it is the standard 7' door and I have 80" of clearance.

Just slap a 12" lift on it and make the garage bigger

Park your truck under the open door and measure the gap between your truck roof (at rear) and the door. This difference is your potential lift limit. Unless you figure out a way to get more than 80 inches of clearance. Garage door openers have an up limit screw or dial..... in theory you should be able to get the door to tuck up fully.

Also don't forget about the lip/step up going into the garage... Mine has a 1/2 inch step up.

I see what you are saying and it may be true in most cases, but it really depends on how your garage is built. The bottom of my fascia and soffit are exactly the same height from the ground as the top of my door opening, it may clear one but not both if you're only working with a 1/2" of clearance. Hate to admit it but I know from experience.

My mechanic put my 08 Sierra's 6" BDS lift on in a garage with regular sized doors. He had to air down all the factory tires to get it back out lol. I built both my last houses with 8' tall garage doors just in case I get the bug to lift my truck.

Ok mine wasn't that bad ! Just had to replace some facia and buff out some minor scratches. My next house will also have 8' tall doors and a floor drain.
