back into an F150! questions on wheels, tires, and exhaust

well after selling my 2000 5.4 $x4, and getting into a few built Cummins and DD'ing my Foxbody for a few years, i sold the last Cummins before deploying and have been truck-less since. ended up buying a CPO 2013 XLT, 5.0, 4x4 SCAB yesterday

it has the basic 17' chrome clad wheels and 235's, and those will be the first to get replaced. I'm going with a 285/70R17 and am undecided on wheels. i may stick with the factory wheels for now, but have always hated clad wheels. if i replace them it will be with a matte black wheel. does anyone have pics of larger tires on factory clad wheels? as for exhaust, has anyone just swapped the muffler and not done a cat-back? i also already ordered a 2" level

Congrats on the new truck. The 5.0L sounds pretty good on it's own, you can do a resonator delete, or keep the resonator in tact and add a Borla Pro XS 3" SI/SO muffler. A Borla Pro XS can be found at Wicked Nicky's or Summit Racing. Have a rolled exhaust tip installed as well.

Question on the wheels? Isn't the chrome just a press-on cover that can be popped off to reveal Alloy's underneath? If so, I would do that and install a set of better tires. Don't go to radical with a stock wheel, my experience is that the ride quality, specifically vibrations in the cab and front end occur, on both my 2007 and 2011 F150's.

i thought about doing that, but i cant seem to find any pics of whatthey look like with the clad removed. and i'll probably pull the trigger on a set of 17x9 Black Rhino Imperial's and think i'll grab the 285/70r17 Cooper ATP's, that or the Terra Grappler's. the ATP's seem a bit more aggressive and a good deal. although i do like the 555's on the Mustang so i lean toward Nitto

and i've heard that the resonator delete makes the cab resonate a bit much, but i'm going to play with youtube a bit

Congrat's on the new truck...I'd even look at the 295x70x17 (33.5x12) size tires. Nitto and Toyo makes this size but a 3.55 or 3.73 would be best to spin 'em!

John pulled the covers right off

and when i tackle the exhaust, i will probably just weld up a SI/DO muffler and run another tailpipe myself, or just see what a shop wants for it. and im pretty much decided that i want to just grab new wheels while im at it, plus theres a great sale on them anyways

Welding in a SIDO is by far the most cost-effective way to do it and it sounds the same! You can get some pretty good wheels in 17s for less than $800, which I think is the best money ya can spend

well i just ordered a set of 285/70R17 Terra Grapplers and 17x9 Black Rhino Imperial's and they should be here mounted and balanced monday-tuesday. then all i will have to do is get my old sensors out of my wheels and throw them in, then i'll throw valve stems in the old set and try and get a few bucks for them. i work in a tire shop, and deal with this stuff daily so i know the drill lol. my company is just very stringent and does not allow up-sizing, and only carries select brands. and as much as i LOVE Michelin's, i wasn't prepared to spend $265 a tire

well, got the 2" level installed last weekend and the wheels and tires on this morning. they are 285/70R17 Nitto Terra Grappler's on Black Rhino Imperial 17x9 wheels. loving the combo so far, may have to go bigger next time! also scored a brand new Frontier grillguard for $260 that will be going on next. the erst of the mod list for now is SI/DO muffler with either 45 degree outs or dumper before each tire, set of Pocket flares and finish it up with srpay on liner on th chrome parts on the bumpers, flares, grillguard, rockers and the bed
