Front signal DRL mod with standard Head Lamps
Front signal DRL mod with standard Head Lamps
I have been reading post after post on switching DRL from head lamp to signal light. I have an 09 XLT with regular head lamps and want to know if i do this without ordering a relay and since my truck is Canadian i don't want to have a separate switch. I am new to reading schematics but know how to splice direct if the instructions are clear. any advice out there?

Careful now - this isn't like the previous-gen F150's - the 09+ have a integrated lighting controller ( SJB) so things need to be done with some finesse.
Consider using fogs for DRL's - more effective anyway.
In any case - a relay is going to be needed for isolation.
Best bet - wait for or PM Steve ( SSCULLY ) - he's done some research on this and won't steer you wrong. Example:

Good luck!
i never considered using my fog lights, what does it take to use the fogs? i don't normally use my fogs anyways so maybe its my best route. I just hate the look of headlights always on EH'!
Yep - fogs are a lot more noticeable than turns, unless you wanted to spend $$$ on Vled V3 switchbacks - http://www.vleds.com/v3-triton.html . Those are certainly sufficient for DRL's via the signal location.
See the link in my previous post for one method - uses a couple relays. Fogs will be on when the key is in 'run' position.
MGD, eh?
On mine, the DRL fogs go out when the heads turn on, unless I specifically select fogs.
