The Dreaded Extended Warranty
Ive very rarely seen an extended warranty cover anything electrical. Read the fine print and see exactly what it covers before you buy.
Fun fact that: Ford's factory extended powertrain warranty does NOT cover failed throttle body.

I was just trying to see the other side. It depends on the interest rate and how long you finance, but I get that for some people they know something may go wrong and it is a way of banking money that they might otherwise spend and some people will have claims that exceed the investment. Most will not.
[QUOTE=kraftomatic;5043782]Thank you for explaining how a warranty works.
See my previous posts on the matter. I know they're made to make money. Similar to insurance. Pretty obvious. My question that started this thread is whether or not X dollars is worth it. I have opinions, yours included. And FWIW, I wouldn't finance it. I'd do it in one straight shot. Is $2000 too much? I think so. Is $1000 too much? I don't think so - I think any mid-size repair for parts and labor outside of warranty will get real close to that. And an F150 with fancy bells and whistles that gets a lot of miles put on it .. well I think it's reasonable that something will happen. I have my 2010 F150 as proof of that, as I've spent over $1000 in repairs. And I had another $1000+ coming if I hadn't traded it in.
Are you rolling the dice on it? Absolutely. I'm just trying to make an educated guesstimate based on people's feedback here on the forum, as well as my own personal experience. The warranty doesn't get any cheaper, the longer you wait.[/QUOTE\\\
I wasn't trying to offend you or anyone else. I was explaining it because some people seemed to be posting a sales pitch--like it is an investment. Everything you buy now offers a warranty. I never buy them for one reason: In the long run everyone is money ahead and to me when you buy one, you are so far against the odds, that almost every person who buys them always, in their life, will lose. I just can't stand throwing money at something so later I can brag that I made a loser bet and won when something goes wrong. Then again I don't buy lotto tickets either.

Ah, missed he is in Ontario. But it is funny that in Canada they drive on the right and use kilometers and in England they drive on the left and use miles.

Where I live we drive on the right in miles and all packaging has 10 languages. Last I was there, Canada has two and England has one.
I can get the 7/75 from Champion for around $1200. That's not to bad for the premium care warranty. My dealer wanted $1800 for it. Here's a link.

So yes, I hate the sales pitch on extended warranties. It seems so silly. Yet, I just traded my 2010 F150 (w/70k) for a 2013 F150 and have some reasons I am thinking about it.
One, I had a couple exhaust gaskets go bad on my prior F150, post-warranty. That was $1,000. Also, the heated seat warmers stopped working, along with the retractable rail on the drivers side not functioning properly. I was waiting to get them fixed, but a motor on the rail is around $800, not counting labor. Not sure on the heated seat costs, but you get my point. Part of why I traded in the truck was to reset my warranty on a new one, and not put more money into my prior one, without a warranty.
So while I hate the extended warranties, these F150's have some nice bells and whistles on them, that I'm not completely sold are fool-proof from failure.
What do you guys think? Is a 5yr/100k warranty worth $1650?
Thanks.

No. It's not worth it. A large percentage of that money goes to commissions, admin costs and profits. Keep the money. The other hassel you won't have to deal with when you do need repairs is getting them to honor the commitment or worry if they will be around to honor it.

If the ESP is not directly from the manufacturer of the vehicle, then they are not worth buying. I know several individuals who purchased third party esp's and they are worthless.
I'm not going to get into the debate about if you should buy an esp or take your chances, it's your money, spend it as you wish.
I'm just saying, if you decide to buy one make sure it's a real esp from ford.

You are wise.
