traded the 04 for a 13 - and WOW

Hey all,

traded the 2004 XLT Screw for a 2013 Lariat SuperCab Ecoboost and all I can say is....WOW.

I've been watching the forums about ecoboost problems and the 5.0 vs eco debate... believe me I was leaning toward the 5.0 until I drove the eco...

I kept the last truck for 7 years and 103,000 miles (bought used with 30,000 and sold with 133,000) and I fully expect to keep this truck for another 7 years and at least 100,000 miles!

Time will tell.

First complaints which are just an annoyance I will get over, #1 i can't selectively disable the dome light. This is annoying when doing night photography or while camping. I don't need the dome light coming on every time I open the truck door when its midnight and darker than the inside of a cow outside. The blackout option at the dealer isn't going to work for me either...so I guess I'll pull the fuse when I need it.

Factory remote start is awesome except I can't leave the truck running after having already drove it (also found in forum). Usually you can hit the button, turn the key, and get out leaving the engine on. Perfect example is today, -14 right now and I will run to the post office before going to work. It will take all of 3 minutes to buy stamps and I would have to turn off the ignition and restart right away to leave it run. COMEON ford...fix this. This is like driving a computer so I know damn well you can program this to work.

It snowed here for the first time this season in a measurable amount and traction control is a pain in the ***. Yes I know...it does indeed do a nice job preventing you from loosing control, I have been experimenting in closed parking lots with the recent snowfall. But pulling out in traffic from an icy side road is nearly impossible without shutting it off. Again just a simple push of the button and you're good to go, but I wish I could just permanently disable. (i have also read about this on the forum).

Now for the likes: amazing power. I mean amazing! I only have 800 miles on it and it is so much more powerful than my 5.4. Areas I normally downshift from 4 to 3, the eco stays in 6 and you just hear the turbo's doing their job. I can't wait to pull a trailer down the interstate, and will be doing that by the end of the year i'm sure.

Creature comforts...WOW. I have never had leather, heated and cooled seats, auto climate control that activates with remote start... just wow.

anywho, i'm impressed with the 2013 lariat i bought! Already installed my VHF and UHF radios behind the seat, poked the NMO mounts into the roof and also installed my cell booster I like to run around with.

I've always been a ford believer...and this continues to reinforce that!

that's all for now, I'll put up some pictures soon. Been a while since I've been on here so it looks like all my existing stuff might be gone.

later!!

Hi.

Congrats on the new truck!

You'll REALLY say WOW ( as in 'oh chit' ) when you experience yer first misfire [j/k]

It looking like the new conventional wisdom is suggesting a plug gap check and adjust ASAP. It may alleviate issues later.

BTW - why a 3.31 if you knew you were gonna be towing on a regular basis?

Good luck!

I may be missing something, but why don't you just leave the ignition on? Why would you shut it off, then restart it immediately? I'm confused...

On my 08 with the door keypad I just use it to leave it running and lock it up.

He means he wants to hit the remote start button while the truck is already on via key, so he can keep it warm, and not waste the ignition of restarting it while he can take the key, lock it, as it idle. I can do this with my '07s factory remote start, surprised that the brand new ones don't.

I do the same on my '08 Super Duty.

King congrats on your new truck! I traded an '09 Plat for a '13 Plat last Jan. and even though they look fairly similar, there were many small changes/improvements made by Ford to the F-150 during those 4 years. I can only imagine the diff you are seeing between the '04 and '13 models. My first F-150 was an '05 and there is a huge amount of diff between the '05 models and the '13. Almost every "interface" area on the 13 is improved over the '09, subtle changes but ones you appreciate every time you drive the truck. You can certainly tell this is Ford's (and America's) best selling vehicle as they put a lot of time and effort in dialing it in after they release a new model. Interesting that the F-150 out sold Chevy and GMC (combined) in the latest sales figures for the month of Oct. Will be interesting to see the 2015s hit the dealer lots and if Ford really did trim the weight a significant amount while still keeping them rugged and durable. Weight kills everything, fuel mileage, performance, handling, etc. Enjoy your new rig!

Not going to be a big issue with the EB - low end torque and stump puller 1st gear in the 6 speed auto.

Mechanical advantage is mechanical advantage. All else being equal a 3.55 (or 3.73) EB will tow better than a 3.31 in a broader range of situations. Less gear hunting, etc. Remember that Colorado tow test? That EB had a 3.73.

Just sayin' - for infrequent towbeast use and predominantly highway light-load commuting, fine. But if yer going to work the truck near limits regularly, 3.55 or better yet, 3.73 is the way to go ( personally, I'd just option 4.10's, lol ).

OK, I see what you are saying. He wants to take the key out. I should've gathered that.

But, he should still be able to lock it with the keypad and punch in the code to get back in.

I just bought a 13 FX4 screw last week, so I'm not the only one with a brand new truck. I chose the 5.oh wow over the EB after driving them both.

Pics or it didn't happen.

Here's mine

Or carry a dummy key without a chip for that purpose. I do it with the '03 when needed. Maybe I should really try to figure out how to lock the doors with the keypad now that I don't have three grad classes to deal with now...

Pretty simple. Hold down the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons at the same time and voila! Just make sure you know the combo to get back in!
