It's also a bit of hand full to tow especially down hills when all four tanks are full which is rare for me to tow it like that but just be aware it will happen at some point.
Oh yeah, they've definitely lightened them quite a bit. Ours is a 2012 Flagstaff 32' with double slides, and it is 7900lb unloaded. I haven't weighed it, but I'm guessing it's around 9000 or so loaded without water. I normally don't tow with the waste tanks full, but honestly, I can't tell a difference when they are.

The fresh water tank is over the axles with one grey tank behind the axles and the black tank with an additional grey tank ahead of the axles so with all four full if I'm remembering the tank capacities right I can have about 130 gallons on board. Like I said it's very rare that I have all four are full at once but it has happened and 8.3# per gallon that's quite a bit of weight to be adding.

8.3#/gal*130/gal= 1079#

Don't forget the weight of all the gear in your truck. You've probably got 150+/- lbs. of hitch in the back of the truck too.

The 6228 truck weight is with the hitch, I did one weigh with just the truck on the scales and then hooked up and weighed the entire rig.

With the trailer hitched up, did you get the weight of the truck? THAT is going to tell you where you stand - compare that to GVWR.

Just got back from our first trip with the fiver, avg'd 9.0mpg for the trip. Was getting mid 9's going up there, but hit some head/cross winds coming home so it dropped the average down to 9mpg 340 miles, 37.5 gallons used. Truck pulled fantastic, very stable even in windy conditions.

The MPG is what it is towing = not good. Hell, i'd be very happy w/ 9mpg that load. The most important part is safety, which sounds like it was stable and you never felt overwhelmed. That's huge!

I don't think he's complaining about the 9 MPG, just sharing what it was. I barely get above that without towing anything haha

Definitely not complaining, as much weight as I was pulling it did very well.

Not even close. His numbers are about 1-2 MPG less than my fuel-hog 6.4L. The new 6.7L PowerStroke will pull about 12-13 with that load. My dad had a 2011 6.7L (he sold his fiver and truck), and towing a 32', 8k (unloaded weight) fiver, he would regularly get between 12 and 13 depending on speed. These are hand-calced numbers. We had nearly identical fifth wheels, and his '11 6.7L would get right at 20% better fuel economy than mine.

Empty, he would get about 25% better than mine. The new 6.7L is a marvelous piece of machinery.

6.7l diesel is around 10 grand more than what I paid for my truck, as well you have to buy Diesel exhaust fluid and then on top of that diesel is 3.99 where as gas is 3.49 here.

It would take ALOT of towing miles to break even in a diesel.
