A/C Compressor Knocking

Hey guys, I have a 2010 f150 xl 4.6 2v with about 85,000 miles. I just noticed after running the ac daily down here in Arizona that the AC compressor knocks when it kicks on and starts to run. It is not an extremely loud knock, but it is consistent and turns off when the compressor disengages. I am wondering if anybody else has had a problem with this thus far, or if anybody is aware of a remedy for this. Thanks!

Is is a constant knock like a ticking noise or just when it turns on?

It is more of a knock than a tick and yes, it is consistent when the compressor engages and then stops when the compressor disengages.

If it's a constant knock when the compressor is running, you probably need to replace the compressor.

You could always take it in to a dealer or A/C shop and ask them to listen to it. That's going to get you a better diagnosis than here where we only have a description to go by. I believe the clutch is replaceable without taking the compressor completely apart.
