Power Tailgate Lock question.....

I did a quick search of the forums and was only able to bring up one thread on the topic, so I am looking to get some feedback on a power tailgate lock. So far as i can tell, the only brand I can find is Pop & Lock #8250. Seems like the install will be relatively straightforward, if time consuming. So, what I am looking for is some opinions on how easily this system installed, how happy you have been with it, how well it has held up over time, and if there are any alternatives I should be considering. Of particular interest to me is the members who have had this in extremely cold climates, but I certainly welcome all feedback. Thanks in advance guys, I look forward to reading your responses......

Pop & Lock and Pace Edwards both have kits for our trucks. There is also a third option if you are good with figuring out things. That option is what I did. I bought a lock actuator off eBay for $7 bucks. I mounted it and bend the rod to attach to the latch inside the tailgate and then wired it. I couldn't be happier, have 2500miles on the truck so far and no issues as of yet.

I first tried to have the Pace Edwards electric lock installed on my truck by an accessory store, but when they took my tailgate apart and tried to install the kit, it did not fit correct and appeared to be a cheap way of locking the lever and not the lock itself. So I then purchased the Pop N Lock unit, and installed this myself. Very nice quality unit, and this one actually attached to the lock and moves it from lock to unlock as you press your key fob. I'm very happy with this unit and would buy it again. I did talk to tech support on the wire location and colors, and as I was finding this out, the technician told me to remove the spring becuase it makes the locker work better. So I did, and it has been fine. Had it installed now for a month. Also, to remember to lubricate the actuator before installing it. Makes it work alot better.

I installed the Pace Edwards lock and love it. Hardest part was locating the power wires in the door sill. There are a million wires down there. Works great.
