Factory trailer brake install 2011 F150 FX4
I installed the Trailer Break Controller (thank you to all in this thread and a few others). Got it on ebay and it was an easy install.
A few days ago I was finally able to get to my Ford dealership to have the TBC activated. They activated it and it registers on the dashboard no problem. They also tested it at the back of the truck where the trailer plugs in and it turns out the wrong harness was installed. It is a 7 pin/4 pin harness and when I towed the trailer for the first time to bring it home, all the lights worked fine. Now I have to wait a week for the new part to be ordered and delivered then I get to go back so they can install the correct part. I was also told that HOPEFULLY the correct wiring from the front of the truck to the back has the wire that works the brakes on the trailer. They won't know that until the new part is being installed.
Oh fun. When I bought the truck (2011, 4 door, XLT 4x4 w/off road package) the salesman at the Ford dealership said all I would need to do is buy a trailer break controller unit and install it. They offered to do it but quoted me $550+. I looked online real quick and found this site and another and declined. At this point because the wrong part is installed its going to end up costing me about $600.
