2008 or 2010??
2008 or 2010??
Hey all - new here and I hate to barge in with a question right off the bat, but I can't find the information anywhere - hoping you all can point me in the right direction.
I'm looking to buy another Ford F150 - this time a supercrew 4WD. I'm debating between trucks - an 08 Lariat w/ 23K miles, or a 2010 XLT w/ 47K miles. Price is the same, and while the options of the Lariat are nice, they are not required.
What I'm trying to determine is what mechanical differences there are between a '10 and an '08 that might materially impact the decision. So, first part of the question is, where would I go to find that? And second, because such a place might not exist, what can you all tell me. Here are some facts about the way the truck will be used:
- Low mileage - short commute to work, it will get the most mileage towing my boat (smallish), or my mountain bike.
- On road duty - not much offroad unless you consider pretty tame gravel roads
Probably the biggest factors around a mechanical "upgrade" from one model year to the other that would matter would be:
- Gas Mileage
- Ability to tolerate corn in it's diet
- reliability
- Unknown mechanical upgrades/changes that I'm too ignorant to ask about. . .
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

read through that thread. lots of differences in motors, trannys, etc that impact mileage, maint costs, and so on. that thread also suggests its better for a truck to be driven (08, built in 07, with that low of miles). all that being said........... i was also in your shoes and i bought an 04-08 with lower miles. havent had a problem yet (knock on wood), but an updated motor with the 6 speed would have been nice. if you dont need the features, get the 10

Wow - great thread - thanks! Didn't realize that they'd switched to a 6 speed from the 4. Also, the change in head to eliminate the spark plug issue is worth its weight in gold!
If there are any other threads out there that compare the '09/'10 to the '08's that anyone has handy, I'd love to find them.

Reddford while the 08 is more than a quality truck and quit capable of doing all your needs I think the 10 is just that much more advanced and improved. This is only my opinion as I had a 06 xlt screw, a 07 fx4 screw and now a 12 xlt screw.
Doggone you people. I had my heart set on that 08 Lariat - Blue and beige is exactly what I was looking for, but I think you are right. After a little research thanks to your posts, I think I'm settling on a '10 XLT. Unless of course someone knows where I could find a '10 blue and beige Lariat with less than 50K miles on it!
Thanks - really appreciate the direction and great advice. Love these forums - it always amazes me how, in an age where the media focuses on how bad everything is, you can jump online, ask a question, and get honest help from people you've never met and who really have no reason to help.
