Thoughts please? 09 5.4 reg cab short bed
Thoughts please? '10 STX 4.6 3v
disregard thread title.
ok, looking at possibly upgrading my ranger again. Was going to a few months ago, but it just wasnt the right time, no good deals.
Came across a few that sparked my interest, for the most part, im leaning heavily towards this red 2010 STX. Its got the 24v 4.6, so the good one lol.

86,000 MILES (ad lists kilometers) and $15,900. (ad lists price with $2K finance discount, But id finance through my bank, better rate)
so, will this 4.6 be reliable with this many miles on it? I put on 25-30K miles a year, will this engine/truck last me at least 3-4 years? any major issues with them? ive heard the trans can be sloppy sometimes, But id fix that with a 5* tuner anyways.
Typical MPG? 90% highway id say, is 20MPG average asking to much? Ranger gets m,e 17 MPG average over 30,000 miles (all hand calculated, every single fill up, always filled up to the click as well, as acurate as it gets)
If you are reading this and its different then when you read it before, yes, i edited it heavily. you arent imagining things lol

I cant speak much to the quality of the 4.6, but I will say that you should finance through the dealer to get the extra $2k. Then, just refi with your bank after-you save the $2k and still get the better rate your bank is offering. The other thing you can do is go in with a preapproval letter from your bank and have them match or beat your interest rate. A lot of people dont realize that you CAN negotiate things like finance rates, they arent locked in stone.....
Take care of it and I'd be it'll get you to 200K and beyond.

Not sure where you are, but the price seems a little high for the miles. I've been looking at trucks in my area on Autotrader.com. You can get an '11-'12 with the 3.7 V6 with less than 40k mi. for 20k give or take.
The 4.6 is a very reliable engine, as far as I've seen. I had a '98 F150 with the 4.6 that I bolted a supercharger to, and it was still reliable for the time that I owned it.
I'm contemplating trading my '11 in for a new '11 the same as mine except with the 5.0. If I do there will be an '11 F150 STX 4x4 3.7 regular cab short bed with 18k mi. for probably right around 20k in central MA. The 3.7 is as good as the 4.6, and gets better mpg.
Good luck!

well, im in canada, so that price, for those miles is actually not bad at all.
How do you like having a reg cab short bed? I found another one I may consider over the super cab originally posted.
its got more miles, 110K miles, but its listed at 14,900, and its a private sale. So only one tax. If i could get that dropped to 13,900 i think maybe I'll go that route.
just wondering if ill regret the regular cab vs the super cab, how much room is behind the seats in the 09+ reg cabs? i do like the look of a reg cab short bed wayyyyy more than a supercab.

but, im sure I could convince them to give it to me for the discounted price if i tell them I'll bring them a check the next day lol. with tax, at the discounted price id be looking at 15,568.
non discounted price with taxes id be at 17,808
maybe if i tell them I can have a check for 16,000 within a couple days, they will go for it? as that really would be the top of my budget. could probably squeeze 17,000, but 16 would be best, as then Id have that extra grand to pay for registration/insurance right up front.
I put on 30-35K miles a year, basically, will the 3v 4.6 that currently has 86,000 miles on it, last me 3-4 years with driving that much? because if it wont, then ill just keep the ranger, and just keep throwing money at it when it needs it. would just be nice to have a newer, lower mileage, full size versus the ranger lol
I prefer a regular cab. It's a smaller truck. Easier to park. Better mpg. I don't need a lot of room. It's just me and the wife, and we only take the truck out on weekends. I've also got a hard bed cover which is pretty dry so most of the time stuff can go in the back. We go hiking every weekend, and in the winter we throw our backpacks and coats behind the seat to keep them warm.
If you plan on moving people, if you have to move valuable stuff, if you don't plan on getting a lockable bed cover, you might want to consider a larger cab.
The only extended cab that I've ever had was a '00 Ranger. I've had three F150's, all regular cabs and two of them short beds.
