5.0 engine in the Mustang vs F-150??

Fellow 5.0 owners our engine has obviously been detuned as compared with the Mustang 5.0 (about 60hp lower). Wondering what the primary differences are between the 5.0 in the truck vs the Stang? Is is basically the same engine, just detuned...or are there major mechanical differences? (Of course you know where I'm heading with this )

Ford Playing Tricks - New 5.0L
The intake cams are unique to the truck. The TiVCT is tuned for more low end TQ.. which will rob some HP. Mustang has tubular headers and a slightly higher compression ratio. The Mustangs 412 is also on premium fuel. It is 402 on 87... only 42 higher than the F150 on 87.
Four All New Engines for 2011 Ford F-150
While this 5.0-liter V8 engine is similar to the one powering the Mustang, it has several important differences to optimize it for truck duty. The camshafts were tuned to improve low-speed torque, which is key to truck customers. Also, the 10.5:1 compression ratio was optimized to reduce knock tendency at lower engine speeds while towing. This results in an engine with less peak horsepower than the Mustang, more designed to deliver torque that trucks need. The hardware added to the 5.0 specifically for F-150 includes: an additional oil cooler, which helps extend the life of the oil to 10,000-mile intervals; foam covers for the fuel injectors to reduce NVH; and cast exhaust manifolds for improved durability. The new aluminum block is 70 pounds lighter than the 5.4-liter V8, which aids fuel economy and improves handling. The engine’s forged-steel crankshaft also ensures durability.
Ford Modular Engine - 5.0L Coyote
A torque-biased variant of the Coyote is produced as an alternative to the EcoBoost V6 in the new F-150 pickup truck. The F150 5.0L receives a lower compression ratio (10.5:1), intake camshafts with less duration, cast iron exhaust manifolds, and revised cylinder heads and intake manifold intended to promote low-end and mid-range power and torque. The engine retains the Coyote's forged steel crank and piston-cooling jets but benefits from the addition of an external engine oil cooler similar to the Boss 302's. The changes result in the engine's peak horsepower dropping to 360 bhp (268 kW; 365 PS) while torque remains the same as the Boss 302 at 380 lb·ft (520 N·m).

I'm getting the impression that the O/P is requesting differences in the engine of the 5.0L Mustang versus the 5.0L in the F-150. And that the intention is to swap a Mustang 5.0L into the F-150. And I'm unanimous on that.

Personally I think the changed to 5.0 to make the ecoboost hp/tq more impressive. Why by a 365/420 v6 when you can buy a 412/390 v8

Because in a truck, torque matters a lot more than horsepower.

Wanted, nice looking Mustang, your wife is very lucky!! A few years back I had a 2008 Shelby GT500 and that Stand would scoot as well! Would still like to drive the 5.0 in the new GT though, I hear it is a fantastic engine.

gdmJoe, thanks for the post, explains it all - I figured it was more than a tune and exhaust, but you never know

I have read in a couple of places on this site that adding the Boss 302 headers, a good exhaust, and a good tune makes a BIG difference in terms of power. Dont know how it affects everyday driveability, torque curve, or fuel economy though. But, if you were looking to boost power a bit thats where I would start my search.....

I sold my 2010 f150 and bought a 2012 gt 6 speed car. Had it for a year it was an absolute beast. Tune, exhaust, nitrous, and converted to E85. I was going to get in trouble with it so i traded it for a 2012 F150 with the 5.0. Id like to get a few more miles on the truck before i void all warranties with this one. My mustang had 500 miles on it when it got tuned.

What i traded for my f150

It's a world of difference from her previous 4.6L GT. If you do go drive one, just take your checkbook with you. They are pretty addictive.
