4x4 and open diffs suck..
any of you guys convert the stock open diff over to a limited slip? i searched the threads past and didnt really find what i was wonting to know. mine has the 8.8". like how invasive is it and can it be done in my garage with help from the father-in-law? the one i'm looking at is just a carrier swap.

When buying my '10 I assumed that a 4x4 would automatically come with either a locker or limited slip without having to order it.
I was wrong!!!
So, if not ordered, you end up with a three wheel drive vehicle instead of a four wheel drive vehicle.
Open differentials should say "3x4" instead of "4x4".

yeah i just wanna put a LS in the rear. i hear a lot the LS doesnt work too well on the front if it didnt come like that from the factory..or you REALLY know when you're doing.
Only thing I would consider on the front is a Air or Electric locker with open diff when not locked. I had a detroit locker in the rear and a LS in the front of a 4X4 once for about 6 weeks never again on anything i will drive on the streets.

A friend of mine is looking at pulling his LS and putting in a locker since he does not want to rebuild it again. If he pulls it I will see what he wants for it and se if it will fit yours it is in a 07 Lincoln LT
I live in the snowbelt near Cleveland and have no issue with the open diff.. Turn off traction control and enjoy the technology. My last F150 had the LS and I actually like the open diff. better. If you are going extreme 4X4 then get a locker. Check out this video at 3:52 (explains one wheel spin control). BTW the one wheel spin control applies to the front wheels as well in 4 hi.

ive heard of that auto lsd in toyotas before. it would be nice if Ford had something like that..or maybe they do already?
I've heard those are really good too. did you do the install yourself?
i dont really have issues driving on the streets with it. i help the father in law do work around the land and stuff like pulling up stumps and things like that it would really help if i had one.

I helped a friend do it on my F150. He has been rebuilding rearends for over 30 years. I probably could have done it but he works for cheap so I'd rather him do it. When he installed the TrueTrac in my Bronco he also swapped the gears for 4.10's so I did't want anything to do with that install.
