Had a blown strut at 40k miles (or earlier)

My 2010 lives an easy highway life so I was surprised when NTB told me I had a blown strut on the drivers side. I did think it was floating over bumps for a while so it may have been blown for 10k miles. NTB said they see stock struts last about 40-50k.
Thanks a ton to the guys at AJUSA! I got the xmas special even though I forgot to use the F150Online discount code... The set of four arrived quickly and installed easily with basic hand tools. I rented a compressor but I hate using them and they were barely strong enough to hold the spring.

The rears are close to stock valving. The fronts are much firmer on easy roads and appear to open up when you hit a larger obstacle. I guess that is the variable damping. very nice shock for less than 70-80 a piece.

So check for oil leakage!

I had to take my '11 back to the dealership to have my passenger side strut replace due to excessive squeaking and the drivers side was the same but they just took it apart and re-greased it. I've been kinda curious on whats available to replace the front struts on mine. I've never really messed with coilovers before..other that putting my leveling kit on.

yea i had to do mine on my 2009 at 46000. i put on the bilstine HD shocks on my truck and there is such a huge difference between stock and them. it really wasn't that hard to replace them. the hardest part was compressing the springs.

it's kinda hard to tell from the pics but what did you use on the front to hold the spring in place? the one beside the stock strut doesn't have the base to hold it

The lower spring perch is removed from the old strut and installed on the new one.

Yup. Had to have my right front strut replaced for leaking at 40k, so it had been leaking for a while. Noticed it when changing oil and looking at the leaking power steering hose. It was covered under extended warranty.
