Headlight Bulbs
Headlight Bulbs
When I got my FX4 and went for a drive one evening I thought that one of my headlights was burnt out. It seems the passanger side does not light up the right side of the road as my other vehicles have in the past including my old 2008 Ford Edge. The bulb was working so it must be the characteristics of the bulb it's self. I went on-line and looked at the Philips X-Treme Power bulbs that I had installed in my 2002 Porsche Boxster S and lo and behold it stated that is shone more light onto the sides of the road to help at night. I did go for these as they provided 80% more light down the road and are 65/55W.
I ordered it from Candlelight Power through Daniels Sterns web link as it is hard to find the 2008/H13 duel filiment bulbs and they seem to be the only one's who carry it for a good price. They came within a week and I installed them the same night.
My observations are as follows:
More light is shone to the sides of the road which makes it safer at night. Bambi and others (two dogs) are now visable when traveling on country roads. It also lights up the roadside signs making navigation easier.
The low beams shine a lot further down the road and I feel safer driving on the major highways that are not lite with street lights. When the higbeams come on .... the visibility is real good and I have more than enough time to slow down and stop without panicking. It is much safer and less stressful than with the stocks. It seems that I can see almost twice the distance as with the stock Sylvanias I pulled out.
There does not seem to be any issues with oncoming vehicles flashing me.
Philips website provides more info on these including where it places the filiment and end cap properties to ensure more light is cast where it needs to be. In all it cost me $43 USD for a pair to be shipped to Canada.
Take a look at these if you need to upgrade from the stock ones. These will probably last as long as the stock bulbs which should be at least 3 years. Mine are always on as the switch is in the auto mode for DDL's as well as ensure the person behind me can see. In bad weather the lights are on both front and rear ... hate to be rear ended ...

Question. Are these the "white" light bulbs as apposed to the more yellow glow of OEM?
I've heard the life expectancy of some of these aftermarket bulbs aren't up to OEM, what's your experience with these in the past?
Also, have you been flashed because of brightness from other drivers?
Thanks

2. It is not the smaller filiment that others are, just how they place it in the bulb as well as the end cap colour. I have had it on my Porsche for about a year and we do have daytime running light mandated here. Everytime I start the car the lights come on. They are still just as bright as when new.
3. I have never been flashed by other drivers. I left the factoy alignment in place and the cut off is the standard cut-off. Just have more light further down the road and to the sides. Confidence level and comfort level driving at night is a lot better than with OEM.
Hope this helps.
Can you provide a link? ...I was just thinking about picking up the same pair. ...Anybody know the "K" on these lights? ...since Phillips does not make the X-treme for our fogs i am trying to find a match....wonder how SS will look under the Phillips????
I put sylvania ultra ss in 2 days after i bought the truck. It was a big improvement. I also did the fogs. and ss bulbs in turns. all other external bulbs are LED. except the puddle lamps.
i also enabled the daytime running feature built into the pcm.
i have not had any actual bulbs burn out yet. and i also run with fogs on , almost all of the time at night.
i know some have issues with the ss bulbs going out pre-maturely ( happens to a lot of guys my wife says!! haah .. only joking. ) but just like in my 99. i believe they ( mainly fogs ) was affected by moisture..
i did replace headlamps, and fogs. and silicones around the lense and bulb before insertion. never again an issue. current truck has bulbs going on almost 2 years. no issues.
last truck bulbs were 3 years old. and still going strong once fixtures were replaced.

I don't want to sound dense, but if you did SS in the heads, fogs, and turns, what bulbs were left to put LEDs in?

Here's the link to candlepower. http://store.candlepower.com/index.html
kept all stock lenses for everything. just got leds from v-leds.com
Just make sure by checking your owners manual as mine is a 2010 model and uses this bulb. That link has a description of the bulbs properties.
