Thinking of Swapping out my 11 Plat. Grill for a 13 LTD grill ???

I am thinking of swapping out my 2011 Platinum Grill for the new style 2013 LTD grill. Anyone done any grill swapping with 13' grills on 09-12 trucks?
I would expect that they are interchangable, but thout I would try and get conformation before ordering any parts.

This is the one I want, just need to check on some details here if anyone can help, 1st thing I need to know is if it can be done, second, do they ship paint ready or pre-painted? My 11 Platinum is gloss black not the current met. Tux black.

I might look at upgrading to the 13 headlights too if they are compatible and with an 11' truck, has anyone done a 13 projector light upgrade to an 09-12 truck?

I fond this pic through google I think this truck belongs to a memeber on here. This might be the most cost effective way to get a very similar look.

Looks like I could just have my current grill painted to acheive this look.

Any thoughts ?

Which grill is in your truck now? Is it solid chrome or is there a PTM surround on it? If it's all chrome or all flat black (for the XL guys) the center and outter surround is one peice. If the inner portion is Chrome, Flat Black, Gray, etc and the outter surround is PTM then those are two peices and you can swap your surround with the one on your new grill since that LTD grill you showed is two peices. Gonna let you know it's pricey tho... All of the Chrome and PTM grills are 800-1000 bucks from Ford... $700 for the Harley on eBay is the best price I've found so far. When you can buy any other Chrome grill on ebay for about $200 new including shipping that is pretty obserd to me. I think I've decided on taking the Chrome one peice 6 bar and having the chrome surround painted the older black like you have not the Tux Black. Other thing is that 13 grill if it does come painted it will only come in available colors from the years it came installed on a truck. So our older black if it isn't available now wont be an option... if you go with the painting process make sure you use a good bodyshop that will san it down and cover all the chrome with an etcing primer or something similar to promote adhesion other wise in a year or two you're paint will start sheeting off the plastic if not prepaired properly...

I like the grills on all versions of the '11-'12 trucks better than the '13s. That's why I just had mine PTM. IMHO, the painted Platinum grill pictured above looks WAY better than the the '13 Limited grill.

But, that's just me.

Painting the surround would be my suggestion. Sould be a bit cheaper. I have been thinking about doing this also, but haven't made my mind up just yet.

I know an 11 fx4 grille surround will NOT accomodate a 2013 insert. My 11 FX4 has a surround and an insert snapped in to it. I tried to put a 2013 insert in it and the design is different on the snap-in tabs. I had to get a 2013 surround and insert, and had the surround painted.

NOw that being said above, the 2013 grille assembly fit perfectly on the'11 fx4 truck though, so there was that easy part.

You know after reading this earlier I had a thought of how i'm gonna do mine... Just wrap what you want black in Vinal... Any Vinal Sign shop could do it or if there's a company in your area doing Vehicle wraps they can do it as well... and it's prolly only 30-50 bucks... max

Thanks everyone,
I stopped by a bodyshop yesterday to get the cost to PTM the suround and center like this one. They said they need to check to see how the grill assymbly comes apart and would send me quote sometime today. I am guessing it will come in around 150-250.00. Should know a firm number later today.

Perfect and THANK YOU for posting all the different painted grille looks! I have a new '13 Tux Black Plat and I've been visuilizing what the different painted grille options would look like. I'm sold on teh ptm surround with the '13 Limited chrome bars as the insert. Wonder if I could have my '13 insert chromed - since it's the exact same design as the Limited - just not chromed? Also, IMO, every one of the trucks in your pics are crying out for two things: 1) Recon clear mirror reflector inserts (the stock orange are soooo ugly) and, 2) the black Ford emblem insert...sure wish someone was still making those, I tried to reach folks on this forum who did make them at one point and no response...would love to get the front and the rear (smaller 7" w/rar camara) inserts...
