Test drive the 2013 fx4 with ecoboost?

Drove a 2013 fx4 with ecoboost today. What a nice truck!! Tons of power and tons of class! I'm still torn between the engine types and witch one to go with? It's crazy how the ecoboost had more power and torque then the 5.0L! The specs say that the ecoboost has 365hp and 420 foot lbs of torque and the 5.0L has 360hp and 380 foot lbs of torque. I have not tested the 5.0L yet. I am going to drive one but just wondering what people think of these two options. It's also crazy to think that the ecoboost has a higher towing capacity!

I drove both before buying my 5.0. The Eco is very impressive for sure, but I like the growl of a V8 and the 5.0 is a stout hi-rev motor. If you test drive both engines, make sure that your trucks have the same rear end ratio. The Eco is about 1.1 seconds faster on 0-60 times. If you want a lightning fast truck and need the extra tow capacity, go Eco.

Turbos suck gas

Hi,
I have the new 5 liter. It is a much smoother engine than the 6. Also what Ford doesn't tell you is that the V6 turbo eco tows with lots of power----- to make that power it sucks alot of gas = worse mileage towing.
Perry.

I have driven both regular. You can definitely tell the Eco has a ton of power down low. My 5.0 loves to rev. Just regular driving you cant really tell. Hammer the throttle and they both get moving real quick.

I test drove both and went with the ecoboost. I like the low rev power. The ecoboost is a rocket.

I drove both and ended up getting the Eco only because i tow a travel trailer and wanted the max tow pkg and the low end torque that the Eco provides. They both are great engines it just depends what you are looking for and also what you plan to use it for? The 5.0 makes its power above 4000rpm's and the Eco makes its around 2700rpm's. If your looking for a mean and great sounding V8 then go with the 5.0. If you want a quite more refined and luxury car feel with a slight whistle from the turbos then get the Eco! But i will say if your main purpose is going to be for towing then i say Eco hands down!

I drove both and chose the 5.0. Not gonna lie....sound was one of the deciding factors, but the biggest factors were:

Ford's proven track record with V8 engines.
The smoothness of the 5.0.
Potential costly repairs for turbos, and parts associated with turbos.
Uncertain about the reliability of EB.
And I honestly liked the way the 5.0 made and distributed its power. Don't get me wrong, the EB was amazing, but for my driving style and needs, the 5.0 was a better match.

But, that's just me.

I drove both and they seemed very close power wise. They were identical trucks other than engine. I chose the 5.0 due to the EB I drove had a lag when you nailed it and I loved the sound of the V8. Plus, my wife asked me if I was going to buy a truck that sounded like the EB. My 5.0 gets better mpg than most RBs are reporting and it delivers all the power I need, hassle free.

I went Ecoboost because I wasn't about to go from 1 turbo (7.3L Powerstroke) to no turbo. Me Boosta is my motto.

I wouldn't worry about turbo problems. Keep good oil in the engine and change it regularly and the turbos will last a good while, also keep a good air cleaner in your truck. My 7.3 still has the same Garrett turbo that it left Louisville with 12 years ago. The Ecoboost's turbos also have the benefit of water cooling, which the 7.3 doesn't have.

I owned both and loved both.

I love the sound of my current 5.0L especially with the aftermarket exhaust. My wife loves hearing the low rumble when I come up the street.

The Eco was a blast to drive as well in a different way; the sound of the twin turbos spooling up was pretty addicting (along with the sucking of gas...lol).

Just for grins, thinking of getting a new 2013 Eco to have fun with. Or maybe a Raptor....lol.

I currently have a 5.4 in a 2010 with 106,000 miles on it, and it has been a great engine. I have no complaints. I have driven the 5.0 when I rent trucks in CO, and they sound great. Like a stock car when you pass someone. However, they seem to lack bottom end. My truck lives its life between 1800 and 3500 rpm and I think the eco boost is going to be better in that range than the 5.0. My 5.4 has good bottom end grunt as well, but can rev high when need be. My eco boost was built yesterday, and I can't wait to get it. I only live 20 miles from the KC plant where it was built, so I am anxious for it to get to the dealer that is one mile away from the plant. Hopefully it won't take too long.

I finally drove a 5.0L a few weeks back ($48k FX4) and loved the sound of that motor. I have had my EB since February (23k miles) and it has been extremely good to me. 19.15mpg for the life of the truck with no issues. I do miss the sound of the V8 and miss it even more after driving the 5.0. The 5.0 moves along great, but the EB is quicker, there is no doubt about it

I love my EB, but I am toying with ordering a 2013 Lariat with a 5.0L this spring! (I am turning into Desert Dawg)

I choose the 5.0 over the ecoboost definitly for the sound and also I know its a reliable motor. When I was in the process of getting my truck I knew to many people that were having problems with there ecoboost so that also helped my judgement.
