I have a 2010 and you can adjust the time that the lights stay on (30s, 1m, 1 1/2 m IIRC) from the dash board settings but you can't turn them off completely. BUT I do know that there's "stealth Mode" aka poilce dark mode that has to be dealer programmed to enable. Perhaps it's already set on your's. The stealth mode is for the popo that don't want their lights coming on and alerting a suspect when they're doing survalence or at least that what they claim!

IIRC there was thread about that on here or one of the other F-150 forums about a year ago from someone that wanted to set that mode on his truck. He finally had to get the dealer to do it. Call around, some dealers charge as much as $100 to change the computer settings!

Have you taken your truck to your dealer to get a diagnosis?

tonzobunz - Hey mustangguy289, did you ever get this resolved? I recently became the 2nd owner of a 2011 FX4 Super Crew and I'm having the exact same issue.
FYI ... The 1st owner must have had POLICE DARK MODE (a BCM parameter that can be flashed via FoMoCo's IDS - Integrated Diagnostic System) -ENABLED-

MEANING:
  • interior -AND- all exterior (front / rear parking and cargo) lights do not come-on when the door is opened and/or closed. *EXCEPTION: Door key pad will still illuminate.
    .
  • when the fob is used to lock|unlock the doors, the parking lights come-on/turn-off for a VERY brief moment. *The time that the lights illuminate is MUCH, MUCH shorter than "normal". Would describe it as a flash.
    .
  • when using the key fob to lock the doors, the horn will not sound.

As a BTW and FYI ...

Beginning in 2011 the instrument panel dimmer control changed to a rocker switch (from a roller thumbwheel) and with that change the ability to disable the illuminated entry feature was lost.

Prior to 2011 to disable the illuminated entry feature you only needed to rotate the instrument panel dimmer control thumbwheel to the left position, past the detent.

And Yes, I have the " Police dark car feature" -enabled-

Fleet F-150s and Expeditions that are ordered / intended for law enforcement agency use are shipped with the " Police dark car feature" -enabled-
.

I thought this might be it after reading through the forum, however my cargo light does come on, my parking lights stay on for awhile and my horn does sound when locking the door. The only affected lights are the interior ones which makes me think it's not the Police Dark Mode...

You can't open the door without them coming on?? Bed light too???

That will be a real popular feature at drive-in movies for the people parked behind you, heh??
I pulled fuse 12 in the passenger compartment to disable the interior lights that come on when the door opens.

Now I need to find out how to disable the seat belt chime, and running lights.

Hey texasmark,

Which model year F-150 do you own?

Hey gardenhosers7,

Have you spoke with your Ford Dealer about this? Which model year do you own and what's your current mileage?

Nick

I have a 2014 F150 and would like to disable the automatic lights also. Anything special with a 2014 model or "see dealer"?

There's nothing "special" about a 2014. You just need the dealership service department to use their IDS and -ENABLE- the ECM/BCM Police dark car feature.

2012 f150 dome lights not working

Hi, I figured out the solution to my dome lights not working. I added some side view mirror lights and had a bad ground so the bcm shut the power off to the lights. The only way to fix it was to fix the ground or unhook the lights that I added and have the dealer clear the code. Now its fixed.

Somebody needs to figure out how these "dealer-only" features work and build a box to DIY. Probably just a simple message send over Can-bus.

2014 XL. I will see if the dealer can put me in police dark mode. Otherwise I will pull out the guts on the door switch and bypass. I do not want any lights to come on when I open the door. The interior has map lights I can turn on when I need light.
