Gear select stuck with console

So the guy at Starbucks handed me a cup of coffee with a broken cup which poured in my console. Now once in a while it won't come out of park like the brake pedal isn't pushed in, I called the dealer and they say 700 for a whole new shifter they see it all the time. There has to be a better fix, any ideas? I am pretty handy so if you have any ideas go.

I was reading some about the gear select silanoid (sp?) might have shorted but why would it work sometime and not others?

Thanks for the help!

there is a module that activates once you press on the brake far enough. in my 09 ( friday it will be gone and a 2013 will be in its place) you can place your hand on the shifter and press on the brake slowly. i could feel the click in mine. not sure it thats changed at all , im sure there is still a lockout , however the technology might have changed some.
im sure its possible its all sticky? where the plunger or other type of magnetic device is not operating properly. i say take the side panels off. see whats in there to remove and brake clean up. then maybe a little 2-26 silicone .

im sure you can get it working for way way under 700.
you would think they would have offered to 'fix' it for cheaper than that, and just clean it up and charge a couple hours shop rate
