Everyone have a set of mud-flaps installed??

If not, I'd be investing in some, cuz they really do make a difference.

I've got mudflaps and side steps. I don't think that's the issue, it's (potentially) a manufacturing flaw.

I got a call from a service manager from Ford of Canada. He politely told me to go f*#% my hat, and Ford in no way shape or form would cover the front bumper. I asked if i had an engineers report done on it if it would change his opinion, and he said such a report would have no bearing. I commented that an engineers report would hold up in a court of law and small claims court and his response to that was that if that was the avenue I wished to take my contact with fomoco warranty personell would end immediately. He told me the only avenue i have left is to have my selling dealer submit a request for re-evaluation if they agree with my opinion.

The service manager is on vacation, and so is the dealership warranty co-ordinator.

I feel abandoned and betrayed by the fomoco warranty program. So much for quality is job 1.

I'm not done yet, but don't like my odds.

Rust and paint chips caused by your use and your environment are not covered under the warranty.

As someone told you in your other thread on another forum, Canadian winters are rough on painted bumpers.

Your truck is a 2010, 3 model years old. You said you can't even see any of the wear at all on the bumpers in the photos so it can't be that bad and Ford isn't going to cover what they can't see even if they wanted to.

Elbow,

I gotta say that I believe you're expecting a little much on the bumper issue. The door rust? Sure. I'll give ya that. There was no damage to the paint, and rust started developing underneath. To me, that's the definition of 'inside out' corrosion.

However, if you got a paint chip on your hood (scratch, etc) and the exposed metal underneath showed signs of surface rust, would you expect Ford to fix it? I know I wouldn't, and it's the same thing with the bumper, right?

It's cause and effect. You drive on the road, you're going to get a few stone chips on a painted bumper. When that happens and you live where winters can be rough anyway, you're going to get some surface rust. I can't see where Ford could have kept this from happening to you.

Just my .02, but I do wish you the best of luck in dealing with them.

So what you're saying here is that you have a 2 or 3 year old truck with some normal wear and tear on it. I happen to also have a 2010 F-150 with a few stone chips on it. You now want Ford to make your truck like new? Is there some wear on your seats? Is there some rust on your muffler? Are your brakes worn? See where I'm going here?

I'd propose that you have nothing more (on the bumper) than normal wear and tear. No manufacturer covers wear and tear in their warranties. What they cover are manufacturing defects. That's not a manufacturing defect.

Sorry, but I think Ford is perfectly justified here. If it were me, I'd back off on the bumper issue so the door issue actually gets addressed properly. You don't want somebody all ticked off at you doing your body work.

There are multiple spots on the bumper with no stone chips and show the same signs of rust. These areas are not rock chips that began to rust, they are areas where the bumper is rusting from the "inside out". If the bumper rust was rock chip related, then you would be absolutely right. Some of the rust spots have rock chips on them. It's the nature of the beast, but not all of the rust spots have rock chips.

If it was scratched, or chipped I would not expect ford to fix it. The areas that have zero damage of any sort and still begin to rust bubble, show that the bumper has an underlying issue.

I have had the truck to 2 different Factory authorized appraisal centers. Both agree that it is not rock damage related rust.

I don't expect Ford to cover rock chips. I do expect ford to cover rust on undamaged areas. If I had this rust on my rear bumper or tailgate, I would expect them to fix that too, although I do drive in reverse from time to time. If I had a 1/2 inch scratch on the top of my tailgate, and the bottom corner began to rust out, should I not expect it to be covered?

It's the same idea. Undamaged areas of any body panels should not rust. If an area of a body panel does rust, then the manufacturer should repair the rust with the highest quality, permanent solution at their disposal.

It's not my job to give Ford quality photo's to make decisions on. This issue is wayyyyyy better seen in person. There is not a professional damage appraiser on the planet that would swear by an estimate if he only saw photo's of a damaged vehicle. Every professional who has seen this in person and looked at the undamaged (non rock chipped) areas where it is bubbling has been in astonishment that FoMoCo denied this claim.

Did I mention that I am a red seal journeyman auto body tech, and have been for 2 decades? This is my area of expertise. I have continued to attend workshops, and technology advancement seminars. I won't pretend to know much outside of autobody, but I know this trade inside out.

FoMoCo is wrong in their assessment. I doubt I'll win, but I know I'm right.

I could repeat myself, but this little thing makes me smile.

I know the techs personally who will be fixing my issues. I worked with them for years. They could care less if I have a beef with the ford warranty program. I'm not asking them to do anything they are not getting paid to do. I'll get a little extra care and attention even without asking for it. I would do the same for them, and they know it.

I see. Well that definitely makes more sense, and as you said, it's something that's hard to tell just from the pics and is better seen in person. Since this is happenening where there is no paint damage, I see where you're coming from.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Update............

Ford painted the inner doors, the hinges, and the wheels flares under warranty. They also replaced all 4 door opening weather seals. They out right refused the bumper. I still strongly believe they are flat out wrong, but I'm not gonna carry the issue any further. I have a cabinet in my garage full of rust inhibitors, primers, sealers, and different clearcoats. I even have a full quart of Flame Blue basecoat waiting for something that needs spraying.

I'll do it myself next spring after the city cleans the roads again for the summer. I think I'll spray my diff cover @ the same time.

Canadianelbow, I think you got to worked up over nothing. When I bought my truck brand new in Feb of 2012, it had the exact same bubbling of the paint, at the door skin seams. Looked EXACTLY like your photos. It had 384 miles on it, since it was a dealer trade, and was driven from Michigan to me in Illinois. Noticed the bubbling right away, and also thought it was rust for sure. But, I also knocked a couple of the blisters off. Underneath did not look like rust. I cant recall the color, but remember thinking it was not rusty underneath. I have a little body work and paint work in my younger years too, and this looked more like a contamination of the metal along the seam, prior to painting. Perhaps some sort of lube was used at the seam or on the door skin seaming machine, that didn't jive well with the paint. You have seen fisheyes and other paint contaminations, right?

At any rate, I had the doors and rest of the truck rustproofed, and the blisters/bubbles have not changed in 9 months, and I don't expect them to, since I don't think its rust under there. How could a brand new truck bubble and blister from the get go? Besides, the blisters aren't at the edges of the panels...they are spaced from the edge, for the most part.

I am sticking with this being an oil based contamination of the bottoms of the doors, as a result of the seaming process, not rust. I noticed another poster said he had the same blisters. Quick, everyone with a truck that was built a year or so ago, run out and look at the bottom of the door seams, and post what you find.
