Spark plug replacement instructions 5.4L 2010

I've been surfing for a while to find some details on how to re&re the plugs but little success. Things like what needs to be removed for access, what special tools are required or just a regular spk plug socket, etc. ?

Youtube video would be awesome but no luck there either (maybe i'm not entering the right search words).

Any details would be great, thank you.

disconect battery negative.....

you'll need

7mm socket for removing cop assemblies

otc-6900 Ford sparkplug socket tool

a variety of socket extensions(3"-6") and a couple of universals....

dielectric grease for cop boots

motorcraft sp509 sparkplugs...

air compressor for blowing out plug wells or vacuum them out

good work lighting and a durable flash light

you also shouldn't need to remove the fuel rails....

Thanks 88,
Looks like I have everything except the 6900 socket tool. Could I use a regular 9/16" spk plug socket with an extension?

Should I put some anti-seize on the spark plug threads?

Yes thanks 88 I too have been thinking about doing this to my 10 FX4. One question what is the "otc-6900 Ford sparkplug socket tool" I see that you said a 9/16 would work do I really need the other one?

Here is the OTC-6900. One advantage, you don't have to worry about the socket coming loose from the extension:

Some trucks have been known to spontaneously start up and spew gas and flames on whoever pulls out the wrong first plug.

HAHA! just kiddin'! Disconnecting the neg. cable removes ALL chances of anything electricly happening from any work you may do. Something like pinching a wire or dropping a wrench across the a solenoid, etc.....It's one of those saftey overkill things.

I just purchased a set of 8 for $137.00 cdn (taxes incl.) from the dealer! I'm trying to laugh it off but I can't help but feel ripped off.

Anyway what is the gap range for these plugs (2010 5.4L)?

Why did you buy them from the dealer? Nobody else has SP509's?

They are $7.28 CAD each from rockauto.com, I don't know how much the shipping is.

Gap is .041.

There is shipping, tax and the mysterious brokerage fee they add on but I'll look into it.

Thanks for the gap spec.

So I successfully removed the plugs with on issuses, it was just like the details in the posts above. The gaps was still good originals and the color was a light ash grey which is not bad (maybe a little on the lean side).

I returned the new plugs and got my money back from the dealer so it all worked out great thanks to you guys.

88....I am curious as to why you recommend NOT putting anti-seize on the threads?

Also, does anyone know the torque values for spark plugs?
