Time for Tires
Time for Tires
Hello
I have the Michelin 265/60/18 on my truck and I need to replace them. Was wondering what Folks were replaceing them with? I tow 8000lb toy hauler live on a dirt road and LOTS of Interstate driving. Also wonder if I could go a bit larger like a 275/65/18 without rubbing.
Truck is a 2011 SCAB 2 wheel drive..thanks

Were you satisfied with the Michelins? If so, replace with like! The SR-A Goodyears (on my 2012 FX4) are fantastic interstate tires, I run through a set every 18 months or so on my DD's. The OE tires are normally quieter, less expensive, and everybody has them in stock.
How often do you tow (or how many towing miles per year) vs. overall miles?

I drive 40k per year highway mostly in Mid America with icy winters. I love the Michelin MS2's in OEM 275/65/18 but E load 10 ply. That way you get a stiffer sidewall and deeper GreenX tread. They give a Cadillac ride, great economy and life. The siped tread blocks do very well in ice, rain and snow. The AT2's are a little shy on siping (squeegee effect) for ice and wet conditions or I would run those. If I were a lineman or macho man I would run the GoodYear Duratracs but I am scared of the noise and mileage losses... Nothing rides like a Michelin.
265/70/18 tires are more common/cheaper. However I think there are less available in heavy load range in this size. I plan to go with this size in a BFG Rugged Terrain which is good on the road and still agressive treaded. Good luck with your choice.
I never pay attention to Consumer Reports ] too much BS] but I do have AT3s and am happy with them . One thing about tires and mileage is that figures given are from specific tests and real world use can be very different .Here some of the roads are in terrible condition and that greatly reduces tread life .
On my previous truck, a 2004 F-150 SCab, 2WD, I installed a set of 275/65/18 Firestone Destination A/T tires. I too did much highway driving, and some off-road at times. I was very impressed with these tires! I only put about 10k miles on them before trading, but, I had over 90% of the tread left that I started with.
As to the rubbing with going to a larger size in your situation, I don't know. But if they will fit, the Destination A/T in that size is a good choice for a tire that will see many highway miles, and some off-road duty.

Dittoes on the Cooper AT/3. After much research I have decided this will be my next tire. It's a great looking tire, the prices are great and there is a 55k warranty on LT E rated tires. They are also offering a $75 rebate on August 24th through November 6th.

I've had three sets of Michelins on my truck. Perfect if you do nothing but highway miles. Smooth tread is quiet and they are guaranteed to 80,000 miles. Mine are The Latitude X's and they have 92,000 on them now and still have a bit left before I get to the wear bars. Great wet traction as well. It was Tire Rack's highest rated tire and I got them at a local Discount Tire.
