Looking for opinions on 2012 F-150

Hello,

I have the new truck bug real bad. I am currently running a 2007 F150 SC 4x4 XLT with 5.4FFV and 3.73 LS. It has 76,000 miles and is in fantastic shape. My question is for you who have upgraded to the new body style. Are you glad that you did it?

Also, the truck I am looking at is a 2012 F-150 XLT SC 4x4 5.0 with the following:

Pale Adobe Metallic
Adobe 40/20/40 cloth
5.0
3.55 Regular axle
7350 GVWR
Tow Pack
XLT Convenience Package
XLT Plus Package
Key pad
Trailer Brake Controller
XLT Chrome Package
Sat Radio

Out the door price is $30,716.
I own my 2007 outright.

I am waffeling on the decision so my question is, "What would the F-150 clan do?"

Thanks,
Wayne

I think I would wait and see what the price is on a 2013 and see if there are some other options you might want that weren't offered on the 12's i.e hid lights. Then you could look at ordering exactly what you want or wait to see if they slash the 2012's in Oct when the 2013's hit the lots. Heres the link to the 2013 order guide.

I believe in following life's passions. I have been getting the best telescopes I can because I am excited about it. I am not going to wait till I am too old to enjoy the things I want to do. I had a 2012 Subaru outback which was also paid for. I sold it and ate a $8000 loss from what I paid new. But that allowed me to get what I need and really want. Its good to be excited about life.

That's not to say you have to get something new to enjoy and appreciate what life has to offer. But it sounds like you aren't going to be satisfied until you get what you want.

I say get it.

I have a thread on my ordering of a 2013. I was also thinking of a SC 4x4 5.0 XLT. The problem was I got used to navigation in the Outback and I don't want to own a vehicle without it. I like exploring and having a Navigation system is the way to go for this. So instead of the XLT, I ordered an FX4. I like to looks of a SC, but looks don't compare to the functionality that I am now getting.

What's the sticker price on the truck? How big of a discount are you getting? The dealership where I bought mine has a bunch of XLT's w/ Ecoboost and the 5.0 L. Check out www.fairwayford.us

Check out the paint on whatever you buy before closing the deal. I bought mine on Monday and it has a bunch of dirt flaws in it. I'm going to the dealership tomorrow to try to get it fixed.

I had a 2006 5.4 4x4 Lariat supercab and after a few in-between years in a car just got a 2012 Fx4 supercab with the 5.0. I wrote a point by point comparison that disappeared when I hit "post" because my phones hotspot had timed out because it took so long to type.....sorry, i type too slow to start over.

Bottom line is that the engine and trans is a huge upgrade, everything else is pretty much the same. Most of the other things I like more are just options I didn't have before ( nav, moonroof, rear camera, etc.). I like the 2012 hood and grille style better but still think the 2006 was a better looking truck. I still find the 2009+ tailgate shape to be a little too Dodge and a little to pretty.

I bet my 2006 looks a lot like your 2007.

well i put my 07 out to rest in 2010. both are 5.4's and the 07 was 3.73 but the 10 is 3;55's. 07 had 4 speed the 10 has 6 speed trans. 07 crew cab was big the 10 crew cab is F*#@ HUGE! 07 got like 15 mpg the 10 gets about the same maybe a little more and is 4x4. all i can say is i am glad i went to a new truck. my 07 pulled fine but the six speed trans in the 10 makes it pull like a raped ape! and really wakes up the 5.4. i could not even dream of the 5.0 or 3.5 tt till i got a 3.5 tt for a work truck. and it is way out in front of my 10. i still like the 10 over the 5.0 when it comes to towing but would have to say the 3.5 tt is a beast! so i don't think you will be sorry if you move in to the new body style!

Traded my 05 screw/4x4/5.4L/3.73 in last september when it had 123k. It was a great truck but nothing compared to my 2011 Eco. My Ecoboost is a screw/4x4/3.31 axle. It will run circles around my old 5.4, even with the 3.31. I could tell my 5.4 would start to struggle towing a boat weight about 4500ish pounds. Had to put her to the floor a lot when getting on the interstate, and she didn't like hills either. Now I have a boat that weighs close to 7000 pounds loaded (trailer, boat, gear, gas, etc.) and the Eco tows it like nothing. The only time I've put it to the floor towing is to pass and I did one time going up a 6* hill on the way back from Alabama to see how much nuts she had lol. Awesome, awesome powertrain package.
