Angry Stupid Rocks

So I was coming home from my kids football practice Monday. I pass a semi-truck going the other way an BANG!! my windshield is hit by a rock. I can see the the cracks forming in the lower left of my window, so I know it is going to cost me money. I get home and check out the damage. The rock hit the window right next to the A-pillar. The area the rock hit is completely smashed and looks like mashed potatoes. I figure it can last for a couple weeks for the wife to get her first pay check from her new job. Wrong!! On the way to work the crack is spreading and goes through my line of sight so now I can't see the road clearly. I call the insurance company and schedule a windshield replacement. As I expected I get to foot the whole bill since I have high deductibles, so I can afford the insurance. That isn't the problem, as I said it was expected. The guys come out and replace my windshield yesterday. It rained last night so I was able to see that there are no leaks. That is awesome. The bad part is my mirror is now loose. Not where it connects to the window, but the joint closest to the mirror. The damn thing now rattles and vibrates and has become completely useless. The only way I can think of that this damage was done is by grabbing the mirror to get it off/on the mount. I have reattached several mirrors over my lifetime and never have I had to actually grab the mirror to get it off/on. I have always grabbed the mount attached to the mirror and slid the mirror off the mount attached to the window. Now I get to fight with the Safelite to have them pay to fix my mirror.

Oh, ok. I opened this thread expecting it to be something about an EB intercooler eating a rock.

I dont know that I've ever seen a loose mirror like that. It either worked or was broke off. I suppose some wiring might be holding it on. I think all these mirrors are auto dimming these days.

I have high deducts too. However, I also have optional "glass breakage". It costs $12.00 per year. It will pay for the stone chip repair free or replace the glass with a small deduct.
Farmers..........

I have that too. Mine also covers head and tail lights and fog lights. Over the years we've averaged about a windshield per year, one $400 headlight, and one $95 foglight. BTW, how 'bout the huevos of the gravel truck owners who put signs on them saying they're not responsible for damage to your car?

From what I remember there is a special tool they use to take off the mirror. Mine was also loose. Took it back and they quickly fixed it.

I know your pain man. I drove from Austin to Amarillo back at Easter and took a rock from an oncoming truck on TX 153. Put a nice good chip in the windshield right below the driver's wiper that spread into a 3" crack by the time I got back to Austin. $90 for the repair but the windshield place said if I was unhappy with the repair at any point they'd credit that towards a new Windshield.

Back when I was fixing PCs for Dell I took so many rocks to the glass on my Crown Vic that a new windshield wouldn't last a year on that car. One week I had to get four rock chips repaired.

I love those signs, especially since the operator of a vehicle is responsible for any damage caused by their load.

Actually I looked a bit more. The mirror is loose at the two ball joints as well as the window mount. Everything is loose.
