Tailgate step
Tailgate step
Has anyone had much experience with the tailgate step? How's it holding out? The hand bar looks like it will bend. I know it's supposed to be for balance but....
Input will be appreciated.

Welcome to this forum!
I have read some reports of issues with the step online. Mostly caused by slamming the step back inside the tailgate with excessive force.
I've had the tailgate step in my last 2 trucks without any problems.
Since i have a cab on my bed, the pole or post, is of no use to me. No balancing problems here anyways,... Lot of guys do away with it to get a smooth, flat tailgate. If i kept my trucks longer, I'd definitely do the same

my last two trucks had zero problems. I never use the pole. I just lower the step and walk up & down. One time I was in a hurry and didn't lower the step to get something and then realized, not having the step really sucks.
Thought they were a joke at first but being close to 65 yrs old I realize how great it is to have one. I use it all the time plus it hasn't broke yet with my close to 250 lbs pulling on it!!
I've used the step before, and I'm a guy that looks like he hasn't skipped enough meals in his life
Seems pretty solid.
My F150 doesn't need the step as badly as my Superduty does. I'm regretting not just taking a check from the insurance company when it got rear-ended. Could have used that + a little Extra money to get a new tailgate with a step and replace the tailight and bumper.

The step is great and the handle is very strong. I wouldn't own another truck without one.
The backup camera is another option that will be on all of my trucks going forward.

I may try to find one to add to my truck. With the tailgate down, it's getting more difficult for me to get out of the bed and the jump is not good for my old hip joints.

Every time I use my step, people gawk.......including my neighbor, who has a F-250 that doesn't have one.
^ yep, at Home Depot a Tundra guy actually said it was cool and wished toyota had one ( I murmured to myself saying you shouldda bought the f150). Even at Costco, people walking past kinda slow down to see what the hell I just pulled out of my tailgate.
It's been out since MY2008 on the SD's. I'm surprised NOBODY has caught on. Does Ford have a patent on it? I know GM thinks they are too cool to add them and try to degrade Ford's "man step". For me, Safety first ( no more sprains or strains) and it's also very helpful with lighter stuff and your bouncing in and out of the bed very often.

You add reverse sensors. I ordered only the camera, as I felt the sensors would be redundant. Do you have both?
