Does shortening it affect the reception much? Not that many people listen to the radio anymore!;-)

depends on how short you make it. i cut like 8" off mine at first and i didnt notice any difference. Now its cut down to around 4" total length and i hardly get reception, but thats ok.

I cut mine about 6", so now it is about an inch taller than my roof. (parking garage "feeler" length) I saw no change in reception for regular city driving.

I like the one's made by Craven Speed..... aka Stubby.... More costly, but I like the look better. I can honestly say I have never used the FM radio in my 2012....

I like the shorter one, but can't use it when you live in rural America. It's hard to get good reception with the long antenna when you are many, many miles and a mountain range away from the nearest transmitter.

I pitched the ball and used a plastic bolt cover from Home Depot. Put a little glue in it and slip it on. I had an issue when I cut mine, the wire that wraps around the antenna split from the main antenna. That ball was never going to go back over all that mess.

I've cut off an antenna in the past and "made" a cap for it and this last time just bought a billet aluminum one (inexpensive). The oem antenna drags across the opening in my garage door which has some arch to it. And yea, I don't care for the looks of a long antenna and don't need it for function where I live.

Basically, pop the 'ball' off of the end of the antenna using a wire stripper (pay close attention to where it goes when you pop it off). Dremel/hacksaw off to suit. Using some kind of epoxy (or bubble gum), reattach ball.

Did it on my 2005 and have had ZERO problems as a result.
Ditto, did it on my 2001 and now on my 2010....The 10 was a little more difficult due to that thin winding wire they twist around it but still only took about 5-10 minutes including re-gluing and touching up with spraypaint
