Plastic burning smell

I have a 2010 FX4 5.4 that when driven hard or in 4x4 use for long while has a plastic type burning smell coming front the front end/engine compartment area.

I have seen other posts about this all over the web but with no answers other than one post about a possible issue with the pipe to the EGR or something like that.

Does anyone have any update on what is going on here? I took the truck to the dealer for regular service and they wanted to keep it over the weekend so the transmission guys could take a look at it. That kind of tells me something, what? I don't know!

My 2011 EB smells like burning plastic after city/turbo use. It is very strong and irritating.

Just a guess look around the exhaust or manifold to see if any wires or plastic might be heating up.

I haven't seen any wire too close to the manifolds or pipes, I have 25K miles and most everything should have been burnt off by now in the last 2 1/2 years?
