How does this work?

I just looked at a new f150s hitch and it's sticker says max trailer weight with eq bars is 10,500. How can the pickup have a max tow of 11,300? They did the torture test with 11,300 lbs...they must have installed a heavier duty hitch? Anyone have an answer to this?

What gear ratio do you have? I believe that the 11,300 rating is with max tow only (3.73s)

That sticker states the rating of the hitch not the truck. It says see owners manual for vehicle specific ratings....

Glad it was helpful. I have a feeling you will enjoy your new FX4 when it comes in. Looking forward to the pictures.

Correct. I think, from reading the OP's other threads, that he already understands this, but clarity is good for those reading this thread who may not. I think his original point was how can the vehicle have a maximum tow rating of 11300 pounds if the hitch rating is only 10500 pounds? So I showed him a pic of my hitch sticker.

I don't think the max tow makes the FX4 11.3k It's the 3.73 isn't it?

So does the FX4 (comes with 3.73) and I do not have max tow. I was always under the impression that max tow increases the max load (upgraded springs) capacity and adds those freakin butt ugly mirrors. Oh a

The FX4 screw with 3.73 has a 11,100 max tow with the max tow package, also the max tow package comes with auxiliary tranny cooler, upgraded radiator, tow mirrors, trailer brake controller, upgraded rear bumper, and a class IV trailer receiver with 7pin wiring harness.

I don't wanna break ***** but if you bought that Max Tow thinking it came with a bunch of extras you are wrong. Here are screen shots from the build of a new FX4. And when you build an FX4 it ALWAYS comes with a 3.73 that is the only choice right from the model selection page.

Tow Package included with every 2012 FX4:

Max Tow (many of the "features" are already in the regular tow package):

So basically a different mirrors, different bumper (maybe this increases the tow capacity of max tow, who knows.), trailer brake controller (which most people who want to tow add-on with the tow package anyway).

The upgraded bumper they refer to on the max tow is really the tow hitch. As the OP observed, the hitch rating is different on max tow than it is on the standard tow package on the FX4, Lariat, etc.

Max tow also gives you about 500 pounds of additional GVWR, puts you at 7700#. Max payload adds 500 to that.

According to the 2012 order guide (also in the 2011 and 2010 order guides) another subtle difference is a 20:1 steering rack ratio for the max tow (page 87 and 90 in the 2012 order guide).

Max tow with the 3.5L and 6.2L also definitely get the Super Cooling radiator with 51 rows of tubes (note: 6.2L always gets the super cooling radiator) . The standard tow package with the 3.5L may also get the same 51 rows of tubes radiator - maybe someone can count them. The 5.0 and 3.7 with tow packages get super cooling radiators with additional coolant capacity over their respecitve standard radiators without the tow package. The 5.0 super cooling radiator supposedly has 41 rows of tubes as does the standard 5.0 radiator without a tow package, the difference being increased coolant capacity for the super cooling radiator. Confused yet? It's all in the order guide.

Then why is it max tow only gives you 11,300. Must be something in there that helps. Pretty sure the hitch is a better hitch
