Kansas City or Dearborn build?
Just wondering what determines where Ford builds a particular F150 when it is special ordered? Are certain body styles built in one plant and another body style built in the other plant? Historically has there been any difference in the quality of the vehicles coming from the plants? Just wondering
FX2's, units with 8' beds and units built with the factory spray-on bedliner are only built at the KC plant
6.2L units (Raptors, HD's, Limiteds when they were being produced, etc) are only built at DTP
Units other than above can be built at either plant, it is up to the order processing process to place it at either of the two plants. The only way to ensure it goes to a specific plant is to order a unit as listed above
Not true. There are 3 shifts at Dearborn and 1 at Kansas City. There are some reasons why a truck gets built where. All long boxes 8' are built in KC. Right now all spray in bed liners are done in KC too, but soon Dearborn will offer this. I believe all the Raptors are built in Dearborn, just because of their wider track. There may be more requirements on some of the smaller number trucks like the Harley, not sure. But, if you order something popular like a SC XLT it could be built in either plant.

K.C does all the 8ft boxes and the King Ranch.
Dearborn does the Raptor, Harley, Limited, Platinum and Lincoln (for Mexico only).
Both plants build all the rest (XL, XLT, STX, FX2, FX4, Lariat).
Dearborn is the lead plant and K.C. is considered the "overflow" plant.
