Your comparison makes no sense.

Wrong.

The pinion angle shims is for a take-off shudder at low speed, not the bump stop. It also includes a new tranny mount and new springs, none of which work or fix that or the other problem.
The 6r80 has always been a six speed tranny.....that didn't just all the sudden decided to shove 6spd internals in a 5 speed tranny. You have no argument here.....you clearly don't have a clue. What do you think the "6" stands for lol.

My suggestion is trade it off lol, buy a truck with out the grandpa bed.....

And if the pinion angle is off you better believe it will bump and clunk.

Really?

I was eluding to the internals, the transmission was based off the 5r55.

I actually use my truck to haul things, didnt buy it to get the cool license plate and tell people I drive a truck, that may be your story....but I use the 6.5' bed, the "baby bed" isnt for me.

i have a 2012 f150 xlt 4x4(off road package) 5.0. i bought it new. i noticed the transmission bump the very first time i drove it. it happens to me when i come to a stop slowly. its hard to explain. i think the 5.0 produces more torque in 1st and 2nd gear than the 5.4, which might have something to do with the bump when downshifting to stop. but i have no idea, just a theory.

when coming to a stop, dont feather the break out for a smooth, slow stop. just hold the break and stop so the truck slightly bounces backward .That prevents the downshifting bump for me.

Wierd theory, since my 10 5.4 does it.

If I come to a stop and just keep holding the brake, after about 5 secs the tranny bumps like it just shifted from 2nd to 1st. Then it bumps on take off like there is slop in the rear end. Strange thing is when I hook my travel trailer up it never ever does it. So is a build up of torgue that gets released on stop and start? Mine actualy does it less the easier I drive it. But I can't drive it like a grandma.

I know the OP was for a '12, sorry for the hi-jack. I have a '09 STX 133" Wheelbase 2wd and mine does it once I let off the brake and hit the gas normally. Especially when I'm in stop-n-go traffic. I've owned the truck for almost 3 years now and it has had this issue for the last 2 years. I have yet to take it in to the dealer. But one problem, I'm lifted and tuned. Probably the same fix as the '10 - '12 models? What you all think?

Thanks,

If you take it to the dealer, remove the tune and bring it in stock.

Yeah I just might have to do that. It's still under warranty.

My 09 still does it from time to time. 93,000 miles on it as of today, so obviously its junk and I should demand a new free truck. When towing my Jeep, 6-4 shifts literally bang the transmission so hard passengers ask if we just broke something. I just sold my 09 Fusion (100k miles on it) and will again start running the truck for sales. We'll see if life is affected by the bump shifts, but I am confident I'll hit 200k without issues.

Back when I was growing up, farmers in the neighborhood would install shift kits in their 3/4 ton trucks used to pull gravity wagons and hayracks. The funny thing is that if a truck had firm bump downshifts, you knew it was built well. Times are a changing...

I think lots of new owners of the current model came from owning mini-vans and station wagons which usually shift pretty smooth.

But my '10 XLT shifts pretty smooth, and I hope it continues to do so.

We used to adjust the torque converters to 'slam' into gears for racing.
Never blew a tranny in my 1969 Dodge Dart 340 Swinger, but turned low 13's at the strip.

Most members won't know what a 'gravity' wagon is.............

I just had my '11 fixed for this problem... for the second time. This time they called out TSB120713A. Some kind of slip yoke fix. "Said" it shouldn't happen again. I'll be pissed in 11,000 miles if it starts up again out of warranty.
I took it in at 8am and it was done by 9:30. My guess... well known problem.
