2011 trans cooler question

I did not get the tow package with my 2011 supercrew 4x4 5.0. I have added a curt hitch. I want to get a transcooler. should i go aftermarket if so where would I mount it? or should I go to the dealer and have them install a ford oem cooler. I am towing a 19ft boat single axle total weight around 3700lbs.

From my understanding every f150 from 2011 up has a tow package, what you didnt get was a max tow pack. Your tranny cooler is mounted by the transmission.

Aftermarket will work just fine. I prefer to mount them between the condenser and radiator. This way your A/C will remain efficient.

I'd recommend something like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TCI-824104

But I would verify that you don't have a trans cooler first. Seems odd not to have one on any new truck. But I don't think I've ever noticed a newer F150 that didn't have the towing package either.

I pick the truck up monday. The 4x4 i had before a 07 nissan xterra had the trans cooler is mounted on the front radiator from the factory. I guess ford is little bit different they mount the trans cooler by the transmission. The truck came with the 4 pin light hook up just no hitch which I have installed

Congratulations on the truck, but would it not of made more sense to just buy the truck with what you wanted in the first place?

all the others were out of my price range payment wise. I have been looking and looking. I could not justify paying another 2k for a f150 with the towing package when the aftermarket curt class 3 hitch was only 130 from etrailer.com.that and i got a sweet deal on the truck that I could not pass up

That was me that said the cooler is by the trans, the brackets you see up front are for the trans cooler you would get with the max tow package or a second cooler. $89 for the second cooler isnt bad I might add it just for the hell of it. Good luck.

Think you are right. The max tow just has a bigger cooler. what kind of weight are you towing. But I agree I would buy the truck that does the job the first time. And if I cant afford the truck to tow the toy i cant afford the toy

If that's all I wouldn't even bother. I can't count how many small trucks & SUV's I've seen pulling the same load and having no issues. I can guarantee they didn't have any trans coolers either.

What is this additional cooler for 89 bucks?? Is it an aftermarket or Ford part?
Also, would it be in addition to the stock cooler or a stand alone in front of the radiator?

From what I understand its an additional cooler thats in front of the radiator (stock cooler by trans) that Ford adds for the max tow. Additional cooler is $89.
