Towing on a test drive?

Has anyone ever heard of a dealer alowing you to tow a trailer on a test drive? I'd love to bring my trailer to the ford lot and have them let me try towing it with the 5.0 and the EB to see first hand wich one suits me better. I tow a snowmobile trailer, not real heavy, but big wind drag. I wanna load up both trucks and rip them 75+mph up a hill and see how they feel compared to my 5.4. I don't see a dealer being happy about that, but its the only way I would let go of my proven, (but semi weak) 5.4 truck.

Unless they have some demos on the lot, FORD doesn't want you to tow anything till there is at least 1000 miles on the engine....

I know of atleast one place that will let you do it. My dads friend was looking at a new superduty a few years ago and the salesman was trying to get him in a v10. Dads friend told him if i can hook up my trailer(40 footer) he will see. They told him to bring the trailer to the dealership and take it for a run..Salesman went with him and dads friend didnt much like the way it pulled, so they hooked it up to a diesel and a hour later he drove off the lot with the new truck and camper..

If they know you are serious about buying a truck, they may go for the idea

I would imagine they wouldn't like that, but you never know until you ask. I also thought there may have been a break-in period on trucks before towing.... I am currently shopping a 2012 EB and if I found out someone hooked up to it with a trailer and ramped it up to 75mph with harldy anytime on the odometer I wouldn't be particularly happy.

Just go with the eco boost. Im sure it will tow much better than the 5.0.

Call up your local dealerships. I'm sure they would be happy to comply if it means making a sale.

There were dealers at the beginning of the year that had trucks with trailers available for test drives, not sure if they still do or not. Why not just call and ask?

Exactly. I would think the dealership will possibly have a demo truck that you could try towing with. It might not be the exact model and optioned how you want it, but at least have the particular engine you are curious about.

Two of my neighbors work at car dealerships and they are always driving something new home from work.

If it's under 3-4k lb pounds, either motor will be fine.

I pull over 6k lbs with my 5.0 and have nothing but positives to say about it. It out tows a 5.4 all day long.

I'd show up at the dealer with my tow-bar and ball(s) in hand and let him know what you have planned.

I agree with 06yz250f and from what you described I bet the 3.7 could move that without to much hassel. Good luck on your decision, you cant go wrong with either one.

Thanks for the input guys. Thats the trouble...I'm not REALLY looking for RIGHT NOW, so I wouldn't want to hassle them with it, but in a year or so I think I would. And ya, the trailer isn't that heavy, and I used to feel that my 4.9 straight 6 towed great, cause all I did was go around town. But now I'm hauling 5+ hrs through the mountains, and really don't want to hit the slow lane on the inclines. my 5.4l tows great for the for that load, but I would like more grunt in the mountains.

The EB will give you more TQ down low and both will give you the power up top. And both should out perform the 5.4l all around with what you are towing.
