Eco Boost Owners - Need your input please
Eco Boost Owners - Need your input please
I am repairing a 2011 Eco Boost F-150. It was in a heavy front end collision. The customer only has 2k miles on the truck and I want to ensure that this vehicle is in as perfect of pre loss condition as I can make it.
We have the vehicle back together and we have been test driving it for the past couple of days. As this is my first Eco Boost F-150 I am not completely familiar with the feel and sound of the vehicle.
As with any turbo charged vehicle you can here the turbos as they function. When test driving at moderate speeds with light acceleration (accelerator pedal at 1/8 - 1/4 depression) you can hear what I can only describe as the light "whisp" of the turbo chargers releif valves(blow off valves??). It almost sounds like wind noise when a door is not sealed correctly. In fact thats what we thought it was at first. The customer does not really remember if it sounded like that or not because he did not get that much time to drive it and it has been in the shop for a month now.
I was wondering if any of you can hear something similar in you vehicles?? Like I said this is my first time ever repairing, much less driving, an Eco Boost and any input would be helpful.
The truck starts, idles and seems to drives just fine. In fact I was a little disappointed when I got back in my )6 5.4 to go home at the end of the day.
Thanks

I appreciate the fast response from all of you.
Bluejay - just to be sure I may suggest monday that we go to the local ford dealer here and test drive a truck.
Sounds about right from what you describe. I really notice it more it seems when the temp in morning is in the 30s and 40s.

Colder air is denser air, this means it doesn't compress quite as easily so the turbos can build more boost (pressure) while doing the same amount of work.
When I hit mine pretty hard from a slow roll I hear the turbos spin up for about 1-2 seconds. after that I only hear the exhaust note. If I hit it hard then chop the throttle I can faintly hear the blow off valve dumping the excess pressure. If the windows are up and the radio is on it almost can not be heard. Of course I have a Platinum which does have a little extra sound proofing, it might be more pronounced on other trucks that do not have this. The sound is no where close to what the turbo sounds like in a Powerstroke. Those can be heard anytime you hit the skinny peddle.
Edit:
Forget the dealer, see if anyone on here has an EB you can compare it to. I would bet someone on here would let you ride in their truck or ride in that one for a sixer.
