Ford Remote Start & Heated Mirrors

One more question about Ford branded remote starters (long range plug-n-play)... Can the user program the starter to turn on the heated mirrors at startup?

I have an '11 XLT with the xlt conv. package. No plus package w/ rear defrost or climate control.

I'm debating on the Ford starter or the local installer. Probably go with the local aftermarket guy if there's no extra benefits with the Ford. Price is about the same.

Thanks.

Yes. A co-worker of mine put one in his '11 XLT EcoBoost and I put one in my father-in-law's XLT 3.7 a few weeks ago. They don't turn on unless it's under 32* but they do work.

Go with aftermarket the distance on them is a lot longer. Most factory is only going to give you a few hundred feet. So basically the distance where you can hit your fob and unlock your doors is where you can remote start it. Buddy has aftermarket and guy can turn his on in the tree stand. Basic version is going to start it only. More premium you pay the more things it will do.

Your factory FOB works a few hundred feet away?

yeah its like 2-300 feet and that is straight line distance with no obstacles. You can get aftermarket that are like 1/4 miles away for the same price as OEM. With OEM if you cant see the truck chances are it wont start.

Agreed. I have an aftermarket one that has a mile+ range. On top of that, mine has a smartphone module. So, so long as my vehicle has cell reception, I press a button in an app on my phone and the vehicle starts no matter how far away I am. I once started my vehicle from Florida to screw with my girlfriend, lol.

Matt, do these truck have rear defrost in them? I noticed in the owner's manual that in the message center, you can control the rear defrost, and I believe that the mirror's are tied in with the defrost. I only have the heated mirror button, and that option doesn't show up on the settings menu. I think a lot of the preferences go away if you don't have a rear defrost or dual climate controls.

Would you be able to find out for me if their mirror's turn on when the truck's started normally below 32°. A guy told me they should. Mine does not.

Thanks again,

Matt

nards444,

The one I'm looking at is supposed to reach up to 1000ft. The OE one (with the button on the key), looks like it's tied into the lock/unlock antenna. This one has it's own antenna behind the mirror like the aftermarket ones.

The Ford and aftermarket ones I'm looking at are about the same, simple, and about 500-1000ft range. The only reason I'd go Ford is if it will turn on the heated mirrors. I'd rather keep the money in my town vs. a Ford dealer somewhere.

Thanks.

Also going with stock means no one is cutting into your factory harness.

Try going to your local car starter people they can inform you what can do what. At least with chevy when I had the OEM remote start it would sense the temp and heat accordingly or cool. So I assum ford is using the same technology. But look online for different aftermarket brands and see what they can do.

They have to have the lines going through them to have defrost. Pretty dissapointed that mine didnt come with it.
