Oil Pourcentage

Hi,

Anyone know if the 2010 f150 computer register in it's memory when we reset the oil pourcentage to 100%

I would like to know because I made a little error on my last oil change. Here in Quebec we need to change our oil to every 8000KM so when I did the reset I chose 70%, thinking that it would be 70% of 12 000km but in fact it was a drop of 70% so after around 3000km my oil pourcentage is allready at 0%...

I want to reset it so it can last until the real 8000km but I would like to be sure that nothing is kept in the computer memory. Be cause I'll not have the oil and filter receipt for this false oil change!

I dont know how your vehicles are set up but I think here ours are set at 7500miles which is 12070.08 km. I dont think it soley goes off mileage, I think it factors in driving conditions as well. 70% of that is 8449. So dont know why that would be happening.

Why do you "need" to change it every 8000km in Quebec?

I would agree unless your doing heavy towing. I know a lot of dealers will say because of the cold do it every 3000 miles or 8000km but I still think that is over kill.

I personally do it at 12000KM or 6 month.

But this is for my father in-law F-150, wich came preset at 8000km by the dealer and He absolutley want to do it that way...

So on his last oil change I tried to set it at 8000km again but mixed up and put around 3000km....

I don't think the computer tracks when the oil reset is utilized. It functions similar to the trip calculator numbers. Once they are reset, they are gone and start fresh.

For 2010's, oil life monitor is based on km's or time - 6 months or 7500 miles if I remember correctly. You may have hit the 6 month time period which took you down to 0%, not the mileage.

People have to get away from the old school way of thinking. Engines and oils are alot better than 20 years ago. The 3000mi myth has been shown to be false over and over. Unless you are towing those 3000miles or doing something extreme save your time and money.

I cant find but have actually read in article that changing oil to often is harsh for engine because you do not give the engine time to break down the oil and let the oil run through its natural life span.
