5.0 performance

Has anyone installed a K&N drop in filter on the new 5.0? Just wondering if there is ANY difference in performance.....

as in just the filter not a complete intake? if you are looking for performance you are going to have to go more detailed than just a filter.

Look at 5 star tuning. They got the best options right now for the 5.0 and have dyno charts for most things

Save your $$$$$.

Reasons:
  • already have a CAI. *intake air is drawn from the wheel well.
    .
  • CFM of OEM air filter more than adequite.
    .
  • better filtration with OEM air filter.
    .
  • no chance of contaminating of the MAF will oil residue.
    .
  • little > NO performance gain.

Drop in filters never give you any power.

Removing the snorkel costs nothing and will net more of a performance increase.

Did the Gott's mod' on my previous 2009 STX 4X4 4.6l 3V and it made a BIG difference, HOWEVER ...

FoMoCo dramatically increased the size of the snorkle for the 2011+ 5.0L minimizing -ANY- restriction and therefore negating the need to remove it. *And YES I checked and opted to leave it intact.

Ah, good to know. Do you know if it is the same for the 6.2L? If I ever trade up that is the engine I will get.

I just bought a 2011 XLT with a 5.0 and from reading all the posts, I do not plan on doing any engine modifications in the near future. I am definately happy with the increased power from my 2004 5.4 FX4. Defininately a night and day difference, even with all the mods I had on the FX4.

Pretty much how I feel. It runs so strong and shift so well, I don't feel the need to do anything there. I have never been concerned with mpg, but with the electronic readouts, it's a whole new game to see what my mileage is. Since I put so many miles on it, it will save about $1700 a year at the current fuel prices. I have a set of Roush wheels I could put on it but I hate to mess with it and cut my mpg. My 2005, I felt I had to mod, this one I feel almost as if I can't mod it. Strange.

I think a tuner will be about the only performance upgrade I do. And that will be to use the wheel/tire size calibration....

i added the K&N CAI, the MBRP exhaust sounds slightly better now. Pretty much agree with all it doesnt add more power but you can hear the difference on WOT now. It last a lifetime to!
