I would like to have seen it with just the indented area painted but either way it's a very nice improvement. Looks great.

If your truck was white platinum tri-coat I'd trade you tailgates. I've got a platinum and I want the Harley / Lariat Limited look.

Are you sure the accent piece on the platinum tailgate will mount on a regular tailgate? Is the tailgate itself not different? I'd swear I remember someone saying they pulled the accent piece off and there were holes, but maybe I'm thinking about the side-moulding on the body.

EDIT: Found this in a thread about the 'insert' separating from the tailgate (it's one line of text from a long TSB):

Remove tape backing, and with the aid of an assistant immediately place the applique on the tailgate and seat the attaching clips.

I wonder what the "attaching clips" are? Do they have mounting holes in the tailgate?

And sorry for the quazi-hijack, just responding to a question you asked.

X3...... maybe even just the outline of the indent, although the giant staple look might be odd. I would have masked off things smaller and had a look first before shooting such a large area.

The platinum insert has been a pain in the rear for several owners. It has a reputation for lifting, and a non perfect fit. Search it. There is a TSB on them to try and repair the problem, but several owners have complained the "fix" didn't work well either.
