Weird Ecoboost phenomenon
Weird Ecoboost phenomenon
First off, I did something stupid. Fully admit that.
I was late to the train station this morning. Train was pulling in the station as I was, and I parked and bolted out of the truck and just made the train. Turns out, I left my keys in the truck.
I parked at 6:25am. I get back to my truck at 7pm to see the headlights on. The truck is unlocked, the key is in the ignition and turned on and the radio is playing. Like I said, stupid.
Turn the key and it starts right up; battery was fine. The headlights were only on for an hour or so as it got dark but the radio on and the ignition energized did not kill the battery. Weird.
Then I notice that my tank is empty, my mileage indicator (averaged over 5000 miles went from 18.6 to 18.1. My tank was about 1/3 full when I parked. I did not smell any gas, the gps map tracks show that there was no joyride that happened. I was down to 9 miles to empty. I filled up and my average for the tank was 13.1 mpg. All these details are to prove that I am not imagining this; the tank was not empty when I parked.
So what does this mean? Where did the gas go? Does the pump stay at 2000psi when the key is on? Is leakage normal in a stupid situation like this? Like I said I didn't smell any gas. It blows that I lost ~30 bucks in gas and killed my average. But I can't figure out what happened.
What do you guys think? Any technical reason other than the gas leaked out somehow?

You forgot to shut the truck off...otherwise your computer average over 5000 miles would not have dropped from 18.6 to 18.1. It probably shut down after a certain amount of time, or a certain amount of fuel left in the tank to prevent running out. Also, the lights and radio will shut themselves off to protect the battery after a certain amount of time (40 minutes?).
*facepalm*
It's so obvious. Makes me feel like a real tool. Though not as bad as the time my uncle got out of his car at a toll bridge to pick up a dropped quarter and had the door close behind him. Heh heh....

^^It's very amazing what we will do in a rush
I was in the drive thru line at wendys in highschool in my old F150 and me and my girlfriend saw a little girl ,couldnt't have been more than 2 years old walking out towards the main road all by herself. Apparently I jumped out with the truck still in drive and ran towards her.. Scooped her up only to come back to see my trucks front end nice and messed up. Of course the mother comes running out screaming because she couldn't find her child. Mother of the year went to that lady that day.

Ya and the little girl was lucky to be alive because by the time i got to her she was in the road.
My girlfriend said as soon as she realized it wasn't in park she jumped over and slammed the brakes but it takes a few seconds to undo your seat belt and jump over.

The ******* probably thought it is was a trap. I mean who would leave their brand new expensive truck running and unattended on purpose.
I know the diesel Superdutys shut down after long idle (prevent wet stacking) and actually federal mandate. Unless you have a high idle feature the truck will shut down in 30 min of no activity. So, apparently they programmed the same thing in the EB f150's. I guess gas engines now fall into the same category..I need to look into this for certain.
