Thinking about Trading in my 2010 4x4 XLT for a 2012 FX4 or Upgraded XLT

Hi Everyone,

I went to the dealership a few days ago and they offered me about $23,000 for my 2010 XLT 4x4 4.6L V8 with chrome package and sliding rear window 57,000km supercab. Thought that was a fair price.

I'm looking into getting a new 2012 Ford F150 but not sure on whether I should just upgrade the XLT with 5.0L, navigation, rear camera, sway/tow package and sunroof. Or upgrade for a few thousand more and get a FX4.

Hope I can get some opinions on this.

Thanks

what are your wants from the truck? if you can get an xlt spec'd out how you want no need to spend more for a fx4.

reason i went with an fx4 was the flow thru center console, black interior, all PTM one color.

You can't get a sunroof or navigation in the XLT. You can get the rear camera though.

You can get the FX4 or FX2 with cloth and sunroof but no navigation unless you get the FX Luxury Package which of course includes leather and raises the price quite a bit. The FX with cloth and sunroof is pretty well optioned and doesn't cost much more than the XLT.

I say if you want those options spend the few extra thousand because you'll regret it otherwise. I had a 2004 Silverado 1500 Z71 with every option available except leather and in 2006 I got offered a good deal on a 2005 Silverado 1500 Z71 with basically no options but the 5.3 and bought it. I didn't think I'd miss all the features of my 2004 but really regretted it almost a few months after. I've been saving up for a 2012 Lariat or FX4 Luxury EcoBoost because I know that it's worth it, especially if you'll keep it for awhile.

But I totally can also see the value aspect of the XLT and if you could get one better optioned than your current one at a good price, it might be worth it, but personally I'd go with the FX4.

It's annoying how you basically are stuck into getting the Lariat or FX Luxury if you want options like a sunroof or nav but I think Ford knows that people will pony up for it, and that's why the XLT has been so dis-contented over the last eight years or so.

I am pretty sure they do not offer navigation or the sunroof on the XLT trim. I could be wrong, and maybe they changed that for 2012.

Thanks for getting back to me so quick. Originally, I bought my 2010 XLT truck for my business (electrical) so I figured cloth seats basic options would be all I would really need. Business picked up so I'm treating myself Also planning on having kids and keeping the truck for 10 years +

That's why I'm opting for sunroof, navigation. I'm also not sure if I want supercab like my current truck or supercrew. I need the 6.5" bed for my ladders and materials but I'm not sure how a car seat would fit in a supercab?

I've been saving up and I totally regret not getting the rear camera on my current XLT. I can go aftermarket but the thought of a new truck plus the 5 litre engine instead of the 4.6L has me leaning toward the new truck.

I don't think I can justify a Lariat with the wife lol maybe if I wash the dishes more often

I also have a 2nd car but love taking my truck on road trips.

The salesman was pretty good at the dealership. He told me that he'll look into both the FX4 and XLT with the otions I want. He also said told me that I should wait because he believes Ford will come out with a 0% financing package this month. Since I'm looking for a long-term finance I can afford to wait for a deal to pull the trigger

The dealer can add a moon roof if you need it and of course there is aftermarket nav. I would upgrade to the FX4 luxury package if you can, you wont regret it even if its a little more then you plan to pay. I thought I was going to have to settle for the XLT again or worse a Toyota Tacoma. After sitting down with the dealer and the wife I got the FX4 luxury pack for $50 less a month then the wife figured. Everyone was happy.

With kids, the Supercrew is a must as far as I'm concerned.

I'm with Bluejay, esp if you have a very young child that's still facing the rear in their car seat. I don't even know if the car seat would fit facing backwards without the SCREW.

Kids = Supercrew. Reverse facing child seats is fine in the middle of a Supercab as it protrudes between the front buckets. But the more than 1 kid? You'll want them outboard. The suicide doors suck for carrying a kid and juggling the doors in a parking lot. i upgraded to a Supercrew two years before we had our first child. No regrets.

As far as NAV and sunroof, neither are available in the XLT. Dealer can add them, but why not just do it to your current truck? Buy yourself some time to save up for that Platinum EB Screw!

I have always opted for the higher priced packages in the past (King Ranch, loaded FX4s, etc.). And to be honest, if I could have gotten navigation (without waiting on it) I would be driving another FX4 but didn't want to pay thousands more and not get everything I wanted. So I opted for the XLT for its value this time around since I found one with just about everything I wanted in a truck.

I have to say that I am very happy with my loaded XLT with the EcoBoost, Convenience Package, Captains Charis with center console, Offroad Package with the 3.73 locking rear axle and skid plates, Plus Package with the power sliding rear window and backup sensors, Tow Package, Trailer Brake Controller, Rear View Camera, etc. Plus, properly dressed I think the XLTs look just as classy as the Lariats if not a little tougher looking too.

I obviously gave up the leather and sunroof as well, but can always add later if I decide that I really want those items too (did that through aftremarket on a couple of my past vehicles and they turned out great). I even dressed up the dash by replacing the center stack with one from the FX4.

I have a Supercrew and I could not imagine owning any other cab configuration other than the supercrew and since I have two kids its awesome and very handy!!!! Tons of room and my kids legs can't reach the back seat so no kicking the back of my seat.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the replies still haven't made up my mind on a new XLT loaded or FX4. My next question is should I eco-boost or go with the 5.0L. I don't tow anything right now so I was going to opt for the 5.0L and the 3.73 locking diff comes standard with the FX4 but is an option with the XLT. The eco-boost is tempting but scary putting regular gas for a twinturbo engine? I'm sure it's been tested but I find that I may just put higher octane which will cost me more.

The salesman was right though the new promotion in Ontario is 0% financing and they brought back the recycle your ride program. I'm at 7% financing for my 2010 so it's definitely worth looking into a new truck

High octane fuel is only required in a EB when you are towing heavy.
