I don't tow anything right now so I was going to opt for the 5.0L and the 3.73 locking diff comes standard with the FX4 but is an option with the XLT. The eco-boost is tempting but scary putting regular gas for a twinturbo engine? I'm sure it's been tested but I find that I may just put higher octane which will cost me more.

The salesman was right though the new promotion in Ontario is 0% financing and they brought back the recycle your ride program. I'm at 7% financing for my 2010 so it's definitely worth looking into a new truck
Either will make you happy. I have the Offroad Package on my XLT which is basically the same as the FX4 mechanicals and includes the 3.73 rear e-locker.

Don't get the Eco for the mileage hype as it really isn't there for every day real world driving, but it is a blast to drive with the power surges it gives out when you want it. To have the same fun you need the 6.2L but then you really will pay in mileage. I have been using regular gas and the Eco has been performing great (and I drive at 5000-12000 ft. above sea level).

Ecoboost versus 5.0

Last month I bought a 5.0. I was deciding between it and the ecoboost. There is a difference but not terribly much. I specifically have the Fx4 package with the 5.0 four door with a short bed. It does every thing I need it to so far I am very pleased with power and towing capability even though I haven't towed much. The main difference between the two is how much you can tow. The ecoboost can tow 11300lbs versus the 9700 pounds for the 5.0. The Power is a little more in the ecobost with the 5.0 at 360HP and 380 Ft. lbs of torque. the ecoboost stand at 365 Hp and 420 ft. lbs of torqueThe amount you can haul in the bed is the same according to Ford. The gas mileage is a little less than I want it to be right now but is getting better currently at 14.6mpg, the ecoboost is considerably better. I have towed 4000 lb trailer with it for a friend and the truck pulled it like it wasn't even back there which is nothing for the truck to pull anyway compared to what it can pull. It actually has a navigation system but not the nav system with a screen. The Microsoft sync has a turn by turn directions feature that you can use where it tells you where to turn including distances to turn such as a Garmin would, but does not show you anything on a screen. I do have a back up camera which is very handy, it pops up in my rear view mirror (when put in reverse) since I don't have the nav screen in the dash. There is also minimal price difference. It is 750 dollars more for the ecoboost. I don't pull a whole lot and I chose to save the 750 but I also love the sound of the dulled out v8 as well, it has that great Ford sound. I do plan on pulling things in the future such as pissibly an air stream my dad owns for possible camping trips which is an 8000 lb airstream. My dad pulls it with his 2010 5.4 king ranch and has no trouble at all. I also have future plans for a good size boat which I have been told should be no problem to pull either. The one thing I don't have that I wish I had was the factory trailer brake controller. I am going to get one installed but would rather have the factory one due to the nice look it has mounted in the dash versus after market which is mounted to the dash. If you have any other question feel free to message me back I am more than glad to answer them if I can.

I almost traded my FX4 for a new XLT. The pluses for me were 5L engine over the 5.4L, new dash LCD, E power steering, fuel economy etc. My buddy at the dealership had 750 dealer cash, 1,000 XLT only with 5L, so it added up to 6,250 in rebates. So I was walking out the door in a new truck for 29k. EB I lost 1k 5L cash and paid the 850 EB cost so pretty much 2k more. An FX4 would have been 3k loss in rebates etc... I decided to keep my 2010. The wife wasn't excited about losing the FX4. Plus the dogs lose the rear console air vents.

Since no one seems to have noticed this, I will go ahead and point it out-This thread is 6 MONTHS OLD. If the guy was gonna buy a truck, he would have done it a long time ago. Please avoid posting on threads that are long dead.

The thread was revived with a NEW question, and MY response was to the new question. I noticed it right away.

GLC, i give you props for reading that poorly written short story. Way too hard to follow something with no paragraphs or indents.

TBC for a 2011 (probably same part # for 2012) is $96 from tasca and then $0-$130 for the flash from the dealership. Install takes maybe 10 minutes and very straight forward.

Does the 2012 even require a flash?

not sure, the 09-11's do so i'd assume so but maybe not.

At best your into it for $100, but be prepared to be into it up to $230 (price if you had it installed from the factory)

Except there wasn't actually a question in Rumbler's post. He posted in response to the original thread, and commented on how he was putting an aftermarket trailer brake controller in his new truck. So YOUR response was a COMMENT, not an ANSWER. A comment on something that does not pertain to the original thread topic on a thread that is long dead.

I'm no longer a F150 owner I ended up trading my truck in for a 2012 Ford Edge Sport

I changed jobs back in September and the job has me driving into the city a lot and parking was brutal with the 6.5 bed and the height of the truck. So I got something more practical for me but I do miss my truck a bit. All the gadgets in my new SUV are pretty cool

Take care guys
