I am ready to make this mod but I just have one question I can't seem to find the answer to.

First of all, many thanks to Formula jg for all the information in this thread. I've been researching this quite a bit and this one seems to be the most concise and informative.

My question is this. On the oem kit,do you have to scroll through the colors each time or does it stay set to one color once you choose it?

I believe I read somewhere that returns to blue every time you open the door but I'm not sure if this is the case. This would be a deal breaker for me, as I am going for a sort of "aviation" look (where red is used to preserve natural vision in low light), and have already switched my map and dome lights to red.

Thanks in advance, and since this is my first post, hello and thanks to everyone for the vast amount of information on this site.

NSBFL,
When you order the Platinum OEM shifter bezel it will come with the oem 2-switch assembly and dog bone LED ring. Color selector/off on 1 switch and dimmer on the other switch. The dimmer will not function because the control module that comes with the Ford Interior Light Kit is not the same as the module that is installed from the factory on the high end trim models.

You do not have to reselect the color every time the ignition is turned off/on, it will remain on the last color you left if it at prior to shut'n'er down.

Buttons

Do the buttons that came with the platinum console bezel along with the cupholder light ring, work like they are supposed to?

Tbabin2,
See my post #32 for the bezel button function.
As for the cup holder ring it works the same as factory, different color selections are achieved by pressing the bezel button once for each color (I think there are 7) and finally off. The LEDs automatically come on when the headlights turn on and the last color choosen when turning off the ignition will light up the next time you get back in and turn on the headlights.

On the Upper trim levels, the ambient lighting is controlled throught the main screen, you don't need/have the little switch. Does anyone know if my FX4 radio can be "reflashed" to have the controls on the touch screen?

Thanks

Mark

I just completed a conversion using Ford's Interior Lighting Kit and the Platinum flow through console bezel which contains the dog bone cup holder led and the built in switches located in the small storage tray at the front of the bezel.

The kit includes 2 bulbs for the front cup holder which are not used because I had the dog bone cup holder led . So I figured I could repatriot them for rear seat light similar to the Platinum. Managed to fish them to the rear section of the center console, poped off the cover that has the vents and installed them down low close to the floor.

The final appearance is clean and very factory looking. Not to brag but I gave myself a pat-on-the-back when I completed this mod yesterday.

Here are a few pics:

Howdy! I have a wire question on this install on my 2013. I have the light kit ( CL8Z-13E700-AA ) and I ordered from Tasca the full console with the ring and all http://www.ebay.com/itm/280973374904...S:3160&vxp=mtr . The LED wires in the kit are black, green, blue, red...and the wires on the cup holder are brown, orange, green, and blue. I don't want to damage anything by testing, by chance do you remember what combination you used to splice this: brown to black, orange to red, etc? Also it appears that the switch provided with the kit is n/o momentary. You have the correct hook up listed, but what about the console switches lighting up....do you know the hook up for this? Thanks! Tim

So if I read formula jg correctly, the brown on the cup holder goes to the black on the kit. Blue to blue, red to orange, and green to green?
Also...do you have the new switch(s) lighting up also?
Thanks! Tim

Tim,
Yup, wire colours you noted are correct.
Yes the switches also light up but the dimmer switch will not function I think because the factory one is tied into the truck's computer.

Normally I'm fairly organized with my documents but after searching for awhile I haven't been able to find a crude wiring diagram I drafted prior to the ambient conversion. There is one more place I need to check but not able to until this weekend so for now I don't want to guess and steer you in the wrong direction for wiring up the console switches.

Tim,
See my post #12 for the switch wiring details, I'll look for my hand drawn wiring diagram I drafted at the time of install and try to post it here (it's not pretty but it may help clarify some wiring).

Thanks! Your posts and all your information have made my job easy! My Kicker system http://www.stage3motorsports.com/200...fer-Kit-2.html should be here on Friday, and I am hoping that the platinum console from Tasca http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-AL...-/280973374904 will be here by then also, so when I pull the dash apart, I can do both at the same time. I will do a thread on the dual install. Thanks Again! Tim
