I had a flat tire now I have warranty!!!

I have a puncture in one of my near new tires. I went to Discount Tire and ask if I can buy tire insurance for my OEM tires, they told me yes and even the repair the flat tire for free and mount in the spare rim to put on the ground the new spare tire with an aluminum rim. They charge US$114.00 including tax for all 4 tires.

For me is money well spent, My truck has the OEM Wranglers and that tires don't last to much without damage for manufacturing defect or road hazard.

I suggest you to do the same. the insurance pays for itself in the first unrepairable tire.

But what they don't tell you is that when your tires are half worn out, and you have a issue with one of them that needs replacing, that you will have to pay full price for the other 3. They won't give you one new tire with 3 worn ones on a 4x4. Then it turns into a buy 3 get one free deal, something you can always find on any given sunday at one retailer or another.

To me it's like buying the extra 2 years warranty on a refrigerator for "ONLY $150". I think you handed them your money for nothing.

I for one, do not recommend anyone else do this.

Wow, kind of a negative post. What about 2 weeks from now when one, two, or three of his tires have un-repairable damage? In that case it will have been a smart move on his part. To make a blanket statement that he handed them his money for nothing is a little overboard. If it helps he sleep better at night knowing he's covered great. If you sleep better knowing you didn't give them $114, that's great too. Each to his own.

To the OP, I think $114 is a deal.

Negative perhaps, but sometimes the truth hurts. To me, buying insurance on the stock tires isn't worth it. Truth be told, not alot of guys replace their factory tires with the exact same tire when they wear out. Most of us upgrade to a better quality, or bigger, taller, or wider, or both, or mud, or........

I replaced my factory Wranglers 5000 miles in for no other reason than I thought they were butt ugly. Buying replacement insurance on those tires, (for me anyways), made absolutely zero sense. About as much sense as putting lipstick on a pig.

If insuring factory rubber lets ya sleep better, spend your money bro. I didn't, I wouldn't if I could, and I still wouldn't recommend anyone else do it, negative or not.

Just sayin'

I hadn't heard this term before, so I had to peek at an urban dictionary. The definition I found was "A negative person who tends to ruin other people's good times".

If buying tire insurance is considered "good times" in your opinion, then I'll accept your observation.

On a side note, I had no intentions of slinging insults. Not sure you had the same intentions.

Ha! I think canadianelbow is the only poster that has any sense.

In over 40 years of driving I've nevre had problems with more tham 1 tire at a time. Basiclly what you did was buy a replacement tire betting you'll end up having to replace one. The tire company is betting on your tires lasting their useful life.

Odds greatly favor the tire company.

Hey it's your money, spend it how you want.

I buy my tires at Sam's Club - and I do spend the $10 per tire for their "package" - which is a road hazard warranty, new valve stems, lifetime balance and rotation, and free flat repair. THAT is worth it.

Wanna hear a fun fact? If the company didn't make money off of offering the insurance, they wouldn't offer it. More times than not, it goes unused. Now $10 per tire with all the stuff glc got is definitely worth it for me.

Your comments are totally out of knowledge for say the least. In my other FX4 I have warranty on the tires also with Tires Discount. In about 4 years I replaced under warranty 3 of the 4 tires and only cost me about $30 - $35 each one for pay the new tire warranty.

Their service and customer care was exceptionally good and I feel they work on my side even beyond the warranty terms.

I never had a problem replacing the tires in my 4X4 because the other tires are worn.

I'll suggest you please keep your uninformed comments for yourself.

Thanks for your comment. For me it's a very good financial move. When I bought the used tires of my other FX4 to an f150 member these tires already have warranty. In about 4 years of ownership I replaced 3 of the 4 tires and I only pay about $30-$35 of the insurance of the new tires instead pay about $230 for each replaced tire.

If the thrust hurts how do you feel when you lie?

I don't buy insurance for sleep better, one unrepairable tire don't quite me of sleep. Is only because is financial wise.

I don't recall ever buying extended coverage on anything, not cellphones, not cars, not truck, not computor, nothing. I rely on the basic warranty and at 57 years, it's been a great plan for me. Selling extra warranty is like placing bets, and usually the house wins and makes "mucho $$$" like at Vegas.

Only part I disagree with is

If you are referring just to guys and gals posting on this site, you maybe almost right .... but out in the real world, most trucks wear factory sized rubber, even same replacements or even cheaper .... their whole life. Thopse are the ones you don't take notice of so much.

Not all the drivers and roads are the same. for example if one person use his or her truck only to go to the church on Sunday (or Saturday) there is a very little chance to have damage to his/hers tires.

I use my truck a lot, my last 2004 FX4 I sold on feb 2011 has 200,000 miles in the oddo, with a lot of hi speed at hi temperature ( 80-90 MPH @ 100+ ºF) highway miles. lot of unpaved roads, lot of very very damaged Mexican roads and the eventual trips to recreational off road.

My current truck has 23,600+ miles in just under 7 months the chance to have tires damage are much larger than average driver.

To each his own
