How did the trailer turn out? That's a long drive for a trailer.

i was pretty good to it the first 1k miles...brakes, engine and all. but since then i've gotten on her some...too much fun hearing that nice v8 roar! i'm gonna have it changed pretty soon even though the oil life monitor says she's got 50 percent life left.

Blue, your oil consumption may very well decrease after it's broken in and you change the oil a couple times.

i kinda wonder if ford has lowered the ring tension just a tad to help with fuel economy??

My old 4.2 has used 1 quart in 6000 miles since I bought it with 55k on it - it now has 140k on it and it's not getting any worse. I would be worried if it DIDN'T use any oil at all, I'd be concerned it's not getting where it needs to go!
i'm not worried at all about the oil consumption i've had so far...just wondered if others were experiencing the same. i can't remember the last time i had to add oil to an engine...and that list of engines includes a 6L piston slapper vortec!

although no big deal, i can't remember the last time i had to add oil to an engine in between oil changes, so i was a bit surprised. just wondering if others have noticed some oil usage with the new motor! :-)

Talked to guy that has 120k on EB and 125k on 5.0

My friend is the manager of a local tire testing facility here in town. They test truck tires for companies and are running the truck 7 days a week at 800 miles a day with atleast 600lbs of weight in the bed of the truck. I talked to him today when we went to lunch.

The 2011 EB has 120k miles on it and so far no problems at all. They change the oil every 8000 miles and so far changed the tranny fluid twice at 50k intervals and the rear diff fluid at 100k. This truck is run during the overnite hours and during the heat of day (110 degrees). These truck are run hard all the time as in wide open up to the speed limit and when going up a hill they run them has hard as they need to keep speed, and are hardly ever turned off. The truck is AVG 14 mpg which i dont think is that bad at all.

Now the 2011 5.0 they have has had a few major problems... Since new the truck has used at least a quart of oil every 4k miles. The transmission went out at 82k and the engine had a rod go threw the block on cylinder one. The AVG mpg's are around 12.

They are ordering 6 more EB's here in the next few weeks along with a couple 6.2's

Just thought i would share this with yall. Like i have stated these truck have the **** run out of them 24/7 so more than likely this wouldnt happen in real world driving.

You're trying to build heat on the cylinder walls to cut the glazing that's happening. It'll only happen with heat and lots of full throttle which means due to throttle mapping, lots of RPMs.

2 Do not wait on changing the oil the first time out. The engine is having to "plate up" with the additive package in the oil and it doesn't take long for there to be a shortage. You also need to change the first time early as the engine will have loads of debris from the machining process that needs to be removed. It comes out in the oil. Don't expect the oil filter to catch all of it either. The larger the particulate, the faster the filter goes into by-pass which means no filtration is happening. I'd suggest changing at 1500 miles the first time.
Don't mean to "dis" you, but your method varies greatly from Ford's recommended procedure.

I have a 5.0 2011. At 6800 miles it was 1 quart low with 60% life left. I got the oil changed at the local dealer last week.

Same here, about a QT. Every oil change at 6K miles. Could it be because the engine is built loser for the higher RPM they can reach? Or the higher compression ratio? My 05 GTO used about the same amount of oil. Always told performance engines will use oil! Oh well no big deal anyway!! Merry Christmas all!!!!

WOW, im in trouble, I have hit the 100mph limit twice and had one red light challange with a tundra. I have also punched it while driving down the road a few times.

Guess my engine is toast now with only 700kms on it so far. I always thought that babying the engine from start gives it a bad break in. Anyway, guess i need to check my oil level and report back here.

I have 2800km on mine and have hit the limiter 5-6 times. I have been driving it like a rental since new. The oil was at the top hole of the dip stick when I checked it a few weeks ago. Right where it was when I bought it.

My 05 5.4L uses over 1.5 quart every 5 K.
Dealer says its within what it is considered normal.
When I broke this one in I babied it, but someone told me you have to floor it every now and then, put some pressure on things just dont run WOT for miles, and vary your speed, and if you cant do that switch to a lower gear or a higher gear and change the rpm that way.
