Different Brand Spare tire?

Hey all,

Since when do they include a different brand of spare tire then the rest of the tires?

I've never owned a car/truck with a full size spare that is of a different brand the rest of then tires that came with the truck.

I have the factory 20" Pirelli Scorpion ATR tires, while the spare is a Wrangler tire.

Just thought that was weird.

That is because you have the 20" wheel/tire combo. The wheel/tire you have as a spare is an 18" wheel with an appropriate size tire on it. The circumference of the regular wheel/tire vs. spare wheel/tire should be almost identical. I think they do it this way to keep their costs down, instead of having to also source 20" steel spare wheels.

Since the spare isn't a cosmetic match to the others, Ford takes the chance that most people don't do a 5 tire rotation.

Cliffs: It's all about the money.

I have a 2009 Silverado LTZ Crew Cab with 18" aluminum wheels and the spare is a 17" steel wheel with a different tread pattern. As stated above "It's all about the money" regardless of whose name is on the tailgate.

OK .... I looked, I was wrong .... no Goodyear under the bed.

My '07 has 275/55R-20 Perelli Scorpion ATRs on the road and a different style Scorpion 255/70R-18 spare (more like a straight tread) on steel wheel. The spare is just a hair taller than the road tires, maybe 1/4" at most and that's with some wear on the 20s.

My Pirelli 20's are almost 1" larger in diameter than the OEM 18".

My 2010 XLT Screw came with stock 18's and Michelin tires. The spare is also the same size Michelin.

I have recently changed to FX4 Pirelli 275/55/20 tires and need to find a 20" spare wheel and tire.
