EcoBoost and Bigger Tires!?!?!

As we all know, most owners dont like the way their truck sits from factory, so we add Leveling Kits and AAL's or Airbags and bigger tires to give the truck some stance. This all leading to the question- How much effect will the bigger/heavier tires have on the EB engine????? Also, with the advance trac RSC, traction and sway control, will the leveling kit, AAL and tires cause this to kick in more than normal??? I know that bigger and heavier tires will take power away from anything, but how bad will it kill the EB since the power of the motor is dependant on the turbo?? Would like to hear anyones input on this. If someone out there has already made these mods, I would like to see pictures. I havent seen hardly any pics of 09's 10's or 11's with leveling kits and tires.

I haven't noticed any significant loss of power or TC issues. The only noticable loss I've seen is 1-1.5 mpgs. I can live with it, it's still better than my 06 5.4 used to get.
2" autospring leveling kit w/ 295/60/20 (34") Trail Grapplers.

I find that very interesting. My truck is yet to get better than 16 mpg on the highway...which is one of my biggest complaints about the truck. I changed from the factory tires to 275/70R18 AT tires a few days after taking delivery.....one of the speculations from the dealership is "Well, you put those big old tires on it!" Big!? 1.4" taller, and a total of 14lbs more weight overall.......the truck goes back in tomorrow, and I'm gona use your post to back my position that there is no way that a tire change size as mild as what I've done is gona knock 4-5 mpg off highway mileage.

Thanks, the tires are 295mm wide which is about 11.6" . I haven't noticed any real power loss, it still hauls a$$.

How are you guys with EB's adjusting for tire sizes? I was still under the impression dealers where no longer able to do this and/or where severely limited in the sizes they could adjust for? I am just curious, a dealer here has an EB FX4 with a bull bar over the intercooler and leveled with 35's on the lot, so either they just left it or they can adjust it and all that hoopla earlier this year was BS

I didn't do anything yet. Eventually I may get a programmer.
According to my service manager on an FX4 the only 2 tire choices are 275/55/20 or 275/65/18 so they can only program it for one of those 2 sizes.
My speedo is still pretty close.I've been clocked at 25mph and 33 mph and it was accurate.I'm sure it's off a little while traveling 50mph or more.

According to the tire calculator with my 295/60/20's if my speedo reads....
25mph I'm going 26.59mph
40mph I'm going 42.54mph
50mph I'm going 53.18mph
65mph I'm going 69.13mph
But I've read that Ford speedos read slightly fast compared to speeds on GPS's so I think mine is a bit closer than the calculator estimates.

No issues at all. 2" AS level and 275/65/20 I would agree with about a 1 MPG loss.

Interesting, it seems if you stay in the 275 range like F150Man you should be fine. Either way both trucks look great with the subtle but aggressive stance and beefier tires. If I wasn't so committed to owning a raptor this would be a route I'd consider; I love the EB, its a great little motor.

Interesting... I really wanted the Trail grapplers. But even the 295/55R20s were over 20lbs heavier than that factory rubber. The extra lbs worried me.

I went with 285/55R20 Toyos (no lift) but I think 55 series 10 plys are just too rough. At least when I have the psi higher for towing...

I wonder if I could run those 295/55R20s with no lift. Or even the 5100s at 1" higher?

Cool, that's my truck. I've been dying to see a silver FX-4 with stock 20's and a nice tire...Thank You. The only difference will be 295/55/20 Graps and 1 1/2" level

Wow, sweat looking rigs guys.

If you are going by the info on the dash regarding loss in MPGs, I would say you are doing pretty good... almost no loss in mileage. If you have not calibrated the tire size, you truck will be reading approx 6% less mileage. Calculate the MPGs using another 6% and you will be back closer to your stock #s.
